Last year’s result: 10th at the Front Range League championships; did not score at state.
Testing 1-2-3: Sophomore Grant McCuen looks to make a comeback after breaking his leg halfway through his high school debut.
The tea: Sampl said the team’s greatest strength in the early weeks has surrounded its free sprint events, adding, “one of my goals for our team now is to develop the other strokes a bit more, so we can be more competitive in the non-free events.” She believes that McCuen, senior Gray Lewis and freshman Tristan Maiorino can help the cause.
Fairview Knights
Coach: Clint Dierking
Last year’s result: Fifth at the state meet.
Testing 1-2-3: Senior Seton Hall commit Wesley Schlachter was part of the 400 free relay team — along with senior Soren Koschmann — that won silver at last year’s state meet.
The tea: First-year coach Dierking said he looks forward to a promising season “with some very strong returning leadership, and some great young talent.” He’ll look to Schlachter, Koschmann, Anders Koschmann and Leo Yin to lead the way.

Last year’s result: Fifth at league championships; 14th at state.
Testing 1-2-3: Senior Florida Tech commit DK Nakashima is an Adams 12 district record-holder for the 100-yard breaststroke.
The tea: Secor said she hopes her younger boys are up to the task of replacing four state qualifiers and believes that juniors Tyler Mills and Austin Neeley, and seniors Hector Mu and diver Tyler Roach, can help the Lightning get there.
Class 4A
Broomfield Eagles
Coach: Emily Austin
Last year’s result: Fourth at the Northern Conference championships; sixth at the state meet.
Testing 1-2-3: According to Austin, senior Rhys Gibson has made finals at state every year and is “an integral member of all of our relays. He’s also a great teammate, supporting everyone regardless of their abilities.”
The tea: Austin admitted it was a building year for the Eagles and looks forward to the improvement her boys will make as the season wears on. She’ll look for leadership from Gibson, seniors Tyler Post and Ethan Kalish, and freshman Caleb Wherry.
Longmont Trojans
Coach: Michelle Urbina
Last year’s result: Qualified multiple athletes for the state meet, and enjoyed a spot in the 200 medley relay consolation final.
Testing 1-2-3: Sophomore Caleb Phelan qualified for four events, including two relays, at last year’s state meet and has “worked hard in the off season and plans to qualify in multiple events this year and improve his times,” according to Urbina.
The tea: Along with Phelan, Urbina said that seniors Michael Bagley and Oliver Glasser will be swimmers to watch out for, as Bagley qualified for state in the 100 fly and the 400 free relay. She added that she looks forward to seeing the boys continue their success from last season.
Monarch Coyotes
Coach: Amber Austin
Last year’s result: Eighth as a team at the 5A state meet.
Testing 1-2-3: Seniors Gavin Keogh and Ethan DiFronzo have carried the Coyotes since their freshman year, and combined for 79 points at last year’s state meet.
The tea: The Coyotes dropped down to 4A with their biggest team in school history, and Austin said she believes they have what it takes to qualify 50% of the team for state. Gavin Laverty, diver Matthew Martino, Ryan Morgenstein and Ryan Cahoon will help round out the senior class.

Stewart said she’ll look to Story, seniors Chayakorn Ngampatipatpong, Shobhit Joshi, Braden Saunders and junior Rider Neeb to take the reins.
