Yolo County residents recently received notifications regarding AT&T’s application to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) for relief from its Carrier of Last Resort (COLR) obligations, potentially impacting traditional landline services.

In response to residents’ concerns, Yolo County will host a town hall meeting to provide residents with an opportunity to engage directly with AT&T representatives.

The town hall meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 12 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Board of Supervisors Chambers at 625 Court St., Room 206 in Woodland.

Residents, particularly those in rural areas, have expressed hesitations about the proposed changes, specifically concerning their safety during emergencies. The county has advocated for their concerns by opposing AT&T’s application in a letter to the CPUC, emphasizing the importance of maintaining reliable telecommunications services, especially in times of crisis.

The town hall meeting will provide an opportunity for community members to learn more about AT&T’s application, its potential impacts on residents, and to voice their concerns directly to AT&T representative Alice Perez.

“We understand the importance of telecommunications services, especially in rural areas where options may be limited,” said Chair of the Yolo County Board of Supervisors Lucas Frerichs. “Our goal is to ensure that all residents have access to reliable and affordable communication options, particularly during emergencies.”
