Passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones on September 10, 2024 at his home. Don was born January 24, 1932 in Chicago, IL to Blanche Klonder and Carl Rice. Don was married to Margaret Eckert on October 11, 1993. In 1951, Don enlisted in the US Navy where he faithfully served his country during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1955. He utilized his learned skills from the Navy and worked for Sperry-Rand Univac for 36 years. He retired in 1992. Don loved and cared for many children, stepchildren, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a wonderful father and was deeply devoted to his loving wife Marge for nearly 31 years.
Don loved playing golf, bowling and was an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan. He was a lover of technology.
As a hobby, Don would like to play the piano, listen to music and was a crossword puzzle whiz. On any given evening you could catch him watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. He was preceded in death by his mother Blanche Rosswalter (nee Klonder), father Carl, brother Jim (Louise), daughter in law Beth (Craig), stepson Darren Edlund and step daughter in law Kristi Edlund. Don is survived by his wife Marge; children Craig, Catherine (David) Schultz, Dennis (Mirah), Susan (Keith) Borgstrom; stepchildren Chris Edlund, Jody (Pete) Dellefave, Brian (Candice) Edlund; seventeen grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Ceremony at Fort Snelling National Cemetery and celebration of life in St. Paul, MN, to be announced at a later date.
