SAN JOSE >> A brawl early Sunday in San Pedro Square ended with four officers injured and eight people arrested on charges ranging from assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest and criminal threats, police said.

The officers reported only minor injuries, and authorities do not have a full count of the number of people who went to the hospital after the brawl as of Monday morning, according to San Jose police.

San Jose police are still investigating the circumstances that surrounded the fight when it began at about 12:25 a.m. in the area of Santa Clara Street and San Pedro Circle. According to police, officers who were in the area observed the fight and tried to break it up.

As the officers approached to provide assistance, the suspects tried to leave the area, police said. Officers tried to take one of the suspects into custody, only to be attacked by more than one of the other suspects, police said.

Additional officers were called to the scene, provided help and were able to get order restored in the area. Police said everyone involved in the fights was arrested.
