Advice about films that kids may want to see — whatever
the rating — in theaters now or opening soon

‘BLACK PANTHER’
PG-13
What it’s about: The king of Wakanda, T’Challa, is challenged for his throne and has to decide how his country will participate in alleviating global oppression.
The kid attractor factor: Marvel’s African superhero, who has popped up in a previous Avengers film, finally gets his stand-alone, and audiences finally get a superhero movie with a predominantly black cast. Action and humor will draw kids and teens.
Violence: Many superhero-style action and fight sequences, but not much blood or gore — more fantastical. Car chases, spear fights, shooting, etc.
Language: One middle finger.
Sexuality: A chaste kiss.
Drugs: None.
Parents advisory: Great for older kids and teens, but too action-filled for very small children.
‘EARLY MAN’
PG
What it’s about: A caveman challenges some Bronze Age higher-ups to a soccer match for his village.
The kid attractor factor: The claymation style and silly humor is great for kids.
Violence: Some hunting scenes, an asteroid hitting earth, some chase scenes and action-packed soccer matches.
Language: None.
Sexuality: None, but a few claymation nude jokes.
Drugs: None.
Parents advisory: Fine for kids of all ages.
‘PETER RABBIT’
PG
What it’s about: The beloved Beatrix Potter tale about a mischievous rabbit gets a modern update.
The kid attractor factor: The animated wildlife, the songs, the jokes, etc. It’s all here for kid audiences.
Violence: Quite a bit of raucous violence as the rabbits battle with their foes, including chasing, smashing, electrocuting, trapping and exploding. Fairly violent (not gory) for a kids movie.
Language: None.
Sexuality: Some romance between Bea (Rose Byrne) and Thomas (Domhnall Gleeson).
Drugs: A marijuana reference with a carrot stick.
Parents advisory: Fine for most kids, but probably way too scary for the youngest ones.
