Appellate judge to speak on Nuremberg Trials

Judge Stephen Higginson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit will visit the University of Colorado Boulder on Thursday to discuss a contemporary look at the Nuremberg Trials.

The Nuremberg Trials were when Nazi German leaders stood trial for war crimes and crimes against humanity, following World War II. Higginson will discuss his research on the trials, including the modern relevance and lessons that advocates and judges can draw.

The lecture will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Wittemyer Courtroom at the Wolf Law Building, 2450 Kittredge Loop Drive in Boulder. Higginson’s remarks will be followed by a question and answer session with law students and a reception from 6:30 to 7 p.m.

New Buddhist monastery set to open on Sunday

The Great Dharma Chan Monastery, a new Buddhist monastery in Boulder, will host its Opening and Purification Ceremony from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at 6417 S. Boulder Road.

Police alert public to possible scam

Police at the University of Colorado Boulder have alerted the public to a possible job scam at Norlin Library.

According to a post on X by the department, a video production job has been posted for Saturday despite the library not authorizing video production.

Anyone who believes they’ve been contacted or have fallen victim to the scam is encouraged by the department to call 303-492-6666.

Hilltop Guild plans Halloween costume party

The all-female Hilltop Guild invites the local community to visit the Kelley House cabin, 18720 Colo. 7, south of Allenspark, for a “mountain-style” Halloween party next Wednesday.

Starting at 5:30 p.m., the party will include a costume contest, with prizes handed out for the best costume.

Appetizers and soft drinks will be provided.

German learning materials available for review

Residents can view the German language materials proposed for adoption in Boulder Valley schools.

Samples will be available to view in person by appointment at the Education Center, 6500 Arapahoe Road, in Boulder or online, through Nov. 8.
