Carter Wright and Jackson Haddad each had a hit, one RBI, and a run scored, and Monte Vista Christian School’s baseball team beat North Monterey County 5-2 to remain atop the Pacific Coast Athletic League’s Mission Division standings Wednesday.

The Mustangs (11-3, 4-1), who are ranked No. 33 in the Central Coast Section, according to maxpreps.com, are tied for first place with Stevenson (6-3, 4-1).

MVC scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break up a 1-all game.

Wright is batting a team-leading .559 (19 of 34) with seven extra-base hits and team-high 19 runs scored

Evan Vessey, Parker Brown, and Brady Cortez each had a hit and run scored for the Mustangs.

Vessey had three stolen bases and Wright had two. MVC finished with eight stolen bases, giving it a total of 91 on the season.

Two of Mikie Melenudo’s three hits went for doubles.

Chris Bautista pitched four innings of relief and earned the win.

MVC plays at NMC (7-8, 2-3) in Castroville on Friday at 4 p.m.

At Watsonville 19, Marina 1; 5 inn. >> Rudy Valdez had three hits, including a triple, three RBI, and scored twice in the Wildcatz’s PCAL Cypress Division win Wednesday.

Valdez is batting a team-leading .680 (34 for 50) with 14 extra-base hits, 20 RBI, and a team-high 27 runs scored through 16 games.

The Wildcatz (7-9, 6-0) are proving to be in a class of their own in division play, though they’ve yet to play fellow unbeaten King City (5-10, 5-0). They’ve produced at least 10 runs of offense in each division game and outscored opponents 88-16 with a pair of shutouts. Five of the six games have been called in the fifth inning on the mercy rule.

Patrick Miller-Brown had three hits, including two doubles, three stolen bases, one RBI, and scored four runs. Kaden Ortiz had three hits, including a double, three RBI, and scored a run. Mathew Silva had two hits, two RBI, and scored three runs, and Francisco Rodriquez-Bermundez had two hits, three RBI, and scored twice.

Silva earned the complete-game win. He gave up six hits and a walk and struck out eight batters.

Watsonville hosts Seaside on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

High school softball

Watsonville 8, at North Salinas 5 >> Layla Romero, Mia Espinoza, and Jillian Lerma had big outings to lead the Wildcatz to their first PCAL Gabilan Division win Wednesday.

Romero had two doubles, two RBI, and two runs scored. Espinoza had three hits, including two doubles, and two RBI, and Lerma had two hits, including a double, three RBI, and scored a run. Bella Ruiz had two hits and scored twice.

The Wildcatz led 4-3 through five innings and added to their lead with their four-run outburst in the sixth.

Amelia Martinez earned the complete-game win. She gave up seven hits, two walks, and five runs, three earned, while striking out six batters.

Watsonville (9-4, 1-2) plays at Palma in Salinas on Friday at 4 p.m.

At Gonzales 14, Pajaro Valley 4; 5 inn. >> Hemeria Delatorre tripled and had two RBI for the Grizzlies in their PCAL Cypress Division loss on Wednesday.

Virginia Escobar had a hit and scored twice for the Grizzlies (3-8, 2-3). Elena Barron had a hit and one RBI.

Pajaro Valley plays at St. Francis on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
