RICHMOND >> A man died in a fatal shooting at a public park Saturday in the city’s 15th homicide of the year, authorities said.
Police said officers responded to reports of a shooting in Southside Park near South Sixth Street and Virginia Avenue, police Sgt. Aaron Pomeroy said.
When officers arrived, they found a man on the ground in the park suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The man, identified as a 39-year-old Hayward resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities did not release the man’s identity, pending confirmation and notification of his next of kin.
The shooting is the city’s 15th homicide of the year, following a fatal drive-by shooting last Tuesday near the Contra Costa College campus.
Last year, the city logged its 14th and 15th homicides on Sept. 11.
