


Eleanor Johnson pitched a four-hitter and Ela Leon’s at-bat led to the go-ahead run in the sixth inning as the Terra Linda High softball team stunned San Marin 2-1 on Wednesday night.
Terra Linda, which went winless in MCAL in both 2022 and 2023 before picking up four wins last season, hadn’t beaten San Marin since 2013. The Trojans went 15-1 in MCAL that season behind MCAL player of the year Alyssa Ross and MCAL pitcher of the year Ashley Bottomley.
Mila Harding singled in the second to give TL (7-0, 1-0 MCAL) a 1-0 lead. San Marin (3-2, 1-1) tied it in the bottom of the frame. TL scored the winning run in the sixth on a San Marin error.
Johnson stuck out five and allowed an unearned run in seven innings. Both teams had four hits as San Marin pitcher Taryn Ellinthorpe went the distance with two strikeouts and one earned run.
• The heart of Redwood’s order enjoyed a big day as the GIants rolled to an 11-2 victory against San Rafael on Thursday. Elle McElreath, Kait Christensen, and Stella Belluomini had three hits apiece, batting third, fourth, and fifth, respectively.
Adriella Marcus, batting seventh for Redwood (5-5, 2-0), had four hits. The Giants scored three in the third and five more in the fifth. Belluomini pitched five innings, allowing three hits and two runs (one earned) with 10 strikeouts.
Sophia Everett and Thomara Drummer had two hits each for San Rafael (1-6, 0-2). Drummer had both RBIs but allowed 17 hits in the game. Drummer struck out 13 hitters and six of the runs were unearned.
• Claire Hannan had three hits and two RBIs as Novato fell 14-6 against Petaluma on Thursday. Estrella Benitez had a hit and scored twice for the Hornets (2-7).
• Maddy Marlin helped get San Domenico on the board with her first career RBI during Wednesday’s 16-1 road loss to St. Joseph of Alameda. Wren Wilcox banged out a triple for the Panthers, while Rory Brunetti struck out four batters during four innings of work.
Boys golf
Low medalist Hayden Thill fired a 2-under 33 at the Meadow Club on Thursday to lead Tam High to a 178-187 victory over host Redwood. The Red-tailed Hawks got a 34 from Shade Murray and 35 from Ben Friedman.
Brody Root paced the Giants with a 1-under 34, and Jack Mount carded a 37.
• Barry Liu shot an even-par 36 at Peacock Gap on Thursday to help Branson to a 197-239 victory over Novato. The Bulls’ Carl Smith shot a 37. Novato was led by Jackson Devine’s 42.
Girls lacrosse
Audrey Spaly scored five goals to lead Branson to a 20-2 victory over Urban on Wednesday. Kaitlyn White added three goals and spurred the Bulls attack with nine draw controls.
Olivia Ritter, Lila Spaly, Ava Grevelding and Taylor Howard each netted two goals for the Bulls (5-0).
Boys tennis
Five matches went to a super-tiebreaker as Marin Catholic beat non-league foe Piedmont, 6-0 on Wednesday, with the No. 1 singles match halted by rain during a tiebreaker.
The Wildcats ‘Andrew Gorcyzcki held on for a 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 win at No. 2 singles, while David Shepard took a 7-6 (1), 4-6, 10-2 decision at No. 3 singles. Felix Adam gave Marin Catholic at 6-4, 7-6 (4) win at No. 4 singles, and two of the doubles matches went to tiebreakers.
• Redwood scored a 6-1 victory over host Tam High as the teams managed to beat the rain Wednesday. Alejandro Puentes, Tug Ricordel and Tito Adams gave the Giants wins at Nos. 2-4 singles, respectively. Tam’s Witt Bulger beat Julian Zhang at No. 1 singles as the Red-tailed Hawks avoided the sweep.
• San Marin High’s Brayden Bowermaster held off Terra Linda’s Teddy Reibel for a 7-6 (4), 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles as the Mustangs earned a 6-1 win on Wednesday. Milo Reyes and Shawn Bested also earned singles wins for the Mustangs, while the Trojans’ Bhuvan Medidi won at No. 2 singles.
• Branson swept Novato, 6-0, with Wednesday’s rains halting the No. 1 singles match. Gian Carlo a Marco, Ryder Teakle and Chase Hee earned singles wins at Nos. 2-4, respectively.
• Toby Sadzeck picked up the win at No. 1 singles to lead San Domenico to a 5-2 win against Urban on Thursday. San Domenico won Nos. 1 and 2 doubles. Urban defaulted at No. 4 singles and No. 3 doubles.
Prep track
San Rafael resident Ellie McCuskey-Hay, competing for St. Ignatius, won the long jump with a distance of 19 feet during Wednesday’s trip-meet with Riordan and Valley Christian. She also anchored the winning 4×100 meter relay for St. Ignatius.
