Jeanne Olsen-Lawrence, a devoted mother, grandmother, educator, and champion of the game of tennis, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2025, at the age of 86.
Born on May 6, 1939, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Jeanne moved to Southern California at the age of four.
After abrief time in Inglewood, she spent the rest of her youth and early adulthood in El Segundo. Her parents, passionate tennis players, introduced her to the sport at a young age—a love she embraced wholeheartedly. Jeanne quickly rose through the junior tennis ranks, winning numerous singles and doubles tournaments.
At El Segundo High School, Jeanne was both a spirited cheerleader and a standout athlete on the tennis team.
She won a CCS championship in tennis, cementing her status as one of the area’s top young players.
After graduating, Jeanne pursued a career as a flight attendant with American Airlines. During this time, she married her high school boyfriend, Frank Olsen. The couple raised their three beloved children in Evergreen for seven years before settling in Saratoga.
As her children grew older, Jeanne reignited her competitive tennis career, achieving national success. She was ranked in the top five in the country inthe 35-and-over division in both singles and doubles. Her passion for the game extended beyond competition—she shared her knowledge and love for tennis as a private coach and served as the women’s tennis coach at San Jose City College for 10 years. After earning her teaching credential, Jeanne continued to educate and inspire, teaching tennis and a variety of physical education classes at both San Jose City and Evergreen Colleges.
In 1983, Jeanne met the second love of her life, Thomas Lawrence. They married shortly thereafter and made their home in Saratoga, where they enjoyed a rich life filled with travel and shared adventures.
Jeanne was a devoted and joyful grandmother to six grandchildren—Vanessa, Evan, Zachery, Maxwell, Joshua and Charles. She cherished every moment spent with them, often sharing her love for tennis on her home court inSaratoga.
Jeanne will be remembered for her warmth, determination, grace, and her unwavering passion for teaching tennis. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and excellence that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband Thomas, her three children Joanne, Suzanne, and John, and her five grandchildren, her sister Susan, nieces Christine and Diane along with many dear friends and former students.
A private celebration of Jeanne Olsen-Lawrence’s incredible life will be held on the tennis court at her home in Saratoga.
