Yankees: SS Gleyber Torres was kept out of the Yankees’ starting lineup against the Rays on Wednesday night as a precaution as the number of confirmed positive COVID-19 tests among the team’s coaching and support staff reached seven. Manager Aaron Boone said MLB was waiting and reviewing a number of test results. The members of Yankees’ traveling party have been tested at least three times each since Tuesday. Boone said tTorres tested positive for COVID-19 in December and has been vaccinated. It was also confirmed by Boone that pitching coach Matt Blake has joined third base coach Phil Nevin and first base coach Reggie Willits as members of the staff testing positive for the virus. A couple additional staff members had positive tests confirmed, bringing the total there to four. Six of the seven were asymptomatic. All are fully vaccinated.

Padres: The virus-depleted Padres made a series of moves to bolster a lineup that is missing OF Wil Myers and SS Fernando Tatis Jr. after they tested positive for the coronavirus. Myers was added to the IL before a doubleheader against the Rockies in Denver. Joining him was 1B Eric Hosmer, who’s out due to MLB’s contact tracing health and safety protocols. OF/INFs Jurickson Profar and Jorge Mateo were placed on the IL on Tuesday for contact tracing. The Padres have now had five players go on the injured list over the last two days due to virus concerns. To take their place, the Padres recalled INF/OF Brian O’Grady from Triple A and selected the contract of OF Patrick Kivlehan.

Braves: RHP Mike Soroka experienced a setback in his recovery from surgery to repair his torn right Achilles tendon and will have a follow-up procedure next week. Soroka was the Braves’ opening day starter in 2020. He suffered the season-ending injury against the Mets on Aug. 3. Soroka, 23, hadn’t begun throwing but was expected to return to the rotation this season. Now those plans are in doubt. Manager Brian Snitker said Soroka will have exploratory surgery early next week in Green Bay, Wis. The Braves will not have a prognosis for when Soroka might return until after the surgery. “I hate it for the kid,” Snitker said. Soroka emerged as one of the foundations of the Braves rotation in 2019, when he went 13-4 with a 2.68 ERA. He earned a spot in the All-Star Game and finished second in NL rookie of the year balloting and sixth for the Cy Young Award.

Mets: Matt Harvey was greeted warmly by fans in his return to Citi Field and harshly by the Mets hitters. Harvey pitched against his former team for the first time and allowed Kevin Pillar’s two-run triple in a three-run second that carried the Mets to a 7-1 victory over the Orioles. It was the Mets’ seventh win in a row. Harvey (3-3) gave up a season-high seven runs and eight hits in 4 1/3 innings, and his ERA rose from 3.60 to 4.81 as the last-place Orioles lost for the fifth time in six games. Taijuan Walker (3-1) lowered his ERA to 2.20, allowing one run and four hits over seven innings as part of a five-hitter. Dominic Smith had three hits and two RBIs for the NL East-leading Mets, who completed a two-game sweep that finished a 5-0 homestand. The Mets are on their longest hot streak since winning eight straight from Aug. 3-10, 2019. Harvey, 32, pitched for the Mets from 2012-18.
