The Baltimore Orioles fired manager Brandon Hyde on Saturday after a dismal start to the season by a team coming off two consecutive playoff appearances.

The Orioles entered Saturday 15-28 and in last place in the Aerican League East.

Hyde, a Santa Rosa native, guided the team through an extensive rebuild and won manager of the year honors in 2023, but Baltimore’s performance slipped noticeably during the second half of last year, and the Orioles have put themselves in a significant hole so far in 2025.

Third base coach Tony Mansolino will serve as interim manager.

Hyde is the third major league manager fired in the last 10 days, joining Pittsburgh’s Derek Shelton and Colorado’s Bud Black.

Hyde was in his seventh season as Baltimore’s manager. He endured seasons of 108 and 110 losses early on, but by 2023, the Orioles won the AL East with 101 victories.

But after a 49-25 start last year, the Orioles played sub-.500 baseball the rest of the way and settled for a wild card. For a second straight season, Baltimore was swept out of the playoffs in its first series.

Twins 7, Brewers 0: Pablo López combined with three relievers on a three-hitter as visiting Minnesota blanked Milwaukee for its third straight shutout and 13th consecutive victory.

The Twins haven’t allowed a run since giving up six of them in the third inning of an 8-6 victory at Baltimore in the second game of a doubleheader Wednesday.

Ryan Jeffers went 4 for 5 with a homer and double as the Twins collected 18 hits.

López (4-2) struck out six and allowed two hits and two walks in six innings.

Mets 3, Yankees 2: Francisco Lindor hit a tiebreaking sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth and the New York Mets beat the Yankees in the Subway Series and battle of division leaders.

Juan Soto went 1 for 4 with a walk and is 1 for 6 in his first two games back in the Bronx since leaving the Yankees for a record $765 million, 15-year contract with the Mets.

Blue Jays 2, Tigers 1: Ernie Clement hit a game-winning single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning and Toronto rallied to halt Detroit’s winning streak at four.

Cubs 7, White Sox 3: Dansby Swanson homered and Pete Crow-Armstrong drove in two more runs to help the Chicago Cubs beat the White Sox at Wrigley Field.

Cardinals 1, Royals 0: Jordan Walker homered and Miles Mikolas pitched six sharp innings to lead surging St. Louis past host Kansas City.

Mikolas (3-2) allowed two hits with four strikeouts and two walks for the Cardinals, who have won three straight and 12 of 13.

Hard-luck loser Noah Cameron (1-1) went 6 1/3 innings in his second major league start.

Phillies 5, Pirates 2: Zack Wheeler pitched six shutout innings, Bryson Stott homered and drove in three runs, and Philadelphia defeated visiting Pittsburgh.

Rangers 5, Astros 1: Joc Pederson broke a tie with a two-run home run in the sixth inning, Wyatt Langford hit a solo shot in a two-run seventh and Texas beat visiting Houston.
