Forward Javan Johnson scored a team-high 21 points, but the Santa Cruz Warriors coughed up the lead late in their 102-98 loss to the San Diego Clippers in NBA G League action at Frontwave Arena in Oceanside on Wednesday night.

Johnson gave the Warriors their last lead, 97-96, with his 3-pointer with 2 minutes, 45 seconds remaining.Golden State two-way forward Jackson Rowe had 16 points and 10 rebounds for this third double-double of the season for the Sea Dubs (8-5).

Guard Marcus Burk contributed 14 points and two steals after coming off Santa Cruz bench. Guard Yuri Collins had 13 points, five assists, and three steals, and forward Blake Hinson, making his first start of the season, had 12 points and five rebounds.

Two-way guard Trentyn Flowers tallied a game-high 29 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks for the Clippers (6-8). Guard Kevion Nolan followed closely behind with 25 points, nine rebounds, and six assists.

San Diego forward Braxton Key had 16 points, nine rebounds, and five assists, and forward Keyshawn Bryant contributed 11 points and two blocks off the bench. Two-way center Kai Jones recorded 10 points, four rebounds, two steals, and two blocks.

Santa Cruz hosts the Grand Rapids Gold (7-7) at Kaiser Permanente Arena on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Boys basketball

Watsonville 68, at Stevenson 62 >> Max Aceves scored a team-high 20 points, and the Wildcatz won their Pacific Coast Athletic League Mission Division road game on Wednesday.

Leon Madec scored 15 points for the Wildcatz (12-3, 8-1), who are tied for the division lead with North Monterey County (13-6, 8-1) with five games remaining in the regular season.

Cooper Olin scored a game-high 26 points for the Pirates (8-11, 4-5). Teammate Kekoa Williams had 21 points, 17 rebounds and four steals.

Watsonville plays at Monte Vista Christian (8-10, 2-7) on Friday at 7 p.m.

At Rancho San Juan 68, MVC 50 >> Senior guard Nico Downie scored a team-high 12 points, but Mustangs lost their PCAL Mission Division game Wednesday.

Senior Braden Dobler scored 11 points for the Mustangs (8-10, 2-7), who trailed 36-29 at the half.

Andrew Hale made four 3-pointers and scored a game-high 21 points for the Trailblazers (12-7, 6-3).

MVC hosts Watsonville (12-3, 8-1) on Friday at 7 p.m.

Pajaro Valley 44, at Ceiba 42 >> Senior Carlos Escobar scored on a fastbreak layup with 20 seconds left, and the Grizzlies held on for the PCAL Santa Lucia Division win Wednesday.

Spartans senior guard Anthony Toriz missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Senior Anthony Aguirre scored 20 points to lead the Grizzlies (6-8, 5-1), and Escobar finished with 17 points.

Toriz made six 3-pointers and scored a game-high 37 points for the Spartans 0-8, 0-6).

On Friday at 7 p.m., Pajaro Valley hosts division leader York (8-4, 6-0), and Ceiba plays at Kirby (3-11, 2-5).

At Cabrillo 84, Hartnell 56 >> Sophomore guard Zavier Sims scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half, and the Seahawks won their Coast Conference South Division game Wednesday.

Sophomore forward Cullen Cleaves and sophomore guard Max Parmigiani each scored 12 points for the third-place Seahawks (12-10, 4-2), who led 38-30 at the half. Parmigiani made four of Cabrillo’s 13 3-pointers.

“Good to bounce back after a rough couple games last week,” Seahawks coach James Pages said. “Now the second half of league play begins and we have to keep getting better to give us a shot at the playoffs.”

Freshmen Finn Powelson and Gunner Larsen each scored 13 points to lead the Panthers (3-19, 2-4).

Cabrillo hosts Gavilan (4-18, 1-5) on Friday at 7 p.m.

Hartnell 73, at Cabrillo 58 >> Freshman forward Gabby Brooks scored 23 points, but the Seahawks lost and dropped into third place in the Coast Conference’s South Division on Wednesday.

Sophomore guard Jade Crum scored 13 points for the Seahawks (14-8, 3-2), who led 36-32 at the half. Sophomore forward Renee Parker chipped in with 11 points.

Freshman guard Bailey Cotter scored 15 points to lead the Panthers (14-9, 4-1). Sophomore guards Daeja Hollands and Sarai Wheeler scored 14 and 10 points, respectively.

Junior midfielder Emilio Padilla followed up a rebound in the final two minutes and his shot hit the crossbar and went in to lift the Cowboys (7-6-3, 2-5-1).

Goalie Luis Tellez made three saves for the Grizzlies (1-8-5, 1-3-4), who play at Stevenson (5-6-3, 3-2-2) on Friday at 3:30 p.m.

At Oakwood 4, St. Francis 2 >> Luis Jimenez-Saenz and Cassio Mendonca de Almeida Junior scored for the Sharks, who lost their PCAL Santa Lucia Division match at Morgan Hill Soccer Complex on Wednesday.

Coach Valentin Berrelleza said the Sharks (1-7-3, 1-3-3) came out low energy, but credited Coy Jordan, Aidan Berrelleza and Vince Tovar for playing with intensity.
