ROBBERY: An unidentified male displaying a handgun took $446 from the cash register Dec. 11 at Dollar Tree, 8144 Cicero Ave., police said.

Chicago Ridge

BOOM PRANK: Investigators are looking for the people who frightened shoppers at Chicago Ridge Mall at about 7:20 p.m. Dec. 22, police said. Responding officers quickly ruled out gunfire as the source of the single loud boom, stressing there was no safety threat and shoppers were able to exit without incident.

Evergreen Park

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT: A shopper at a home improvement store in the 9100 block of Western Avenue said he witnessed two men taking a catalytic converter from a vehicle Dec. 6 but backed off when one of them brandished a handgun.

ROBBERY: A male who participated in taking items selling for $148 from Walgreens, 8700 Kedzie Ave., punched an employee outside when the employee demanded payment, police said.

DEALING ALLEGED: The sounds of running water and a dog barking in a supposedly vacant home in the 2700 block of 89th Place led to the discovery of 6.2 pounds of marijuana and the arrest of a former tenant, police said. Jason P. Arvanites, was taken into custody Dec. 9 and accused of manufacturing/delivering more than 30 grams of cannabis, police said.

Homewood

SHOTS FIRED: Individuals fired bullets and fled the night of Dec. 21 in the 17600 block of Hillside Avenue with no one reported injured, police said. Responding officers recovered several spent shell casings and encountered a vehicle that had crashed into a tree as the driver attempted to leave the area, police said.

Mokena

IDENTITY THEFT: A Mokena man accused of running up more than $1,000 in charges on a neighbor’s credit card is scheduled to appear in Will County court Jan. 9, charged with aggravated identity theft and unlawful possession of a credit/debit card, according to police and court records online. Alexander J. Zirino, 32, 10800 block of Canterbury Drive, allegedly withdrew cash with the card and purchased gasoline Nov. 4, police said.

New Lenox

HIT-RUN: Michael F. Dolan, 58, 2600 block of Kingsway Avenue, was arrested Dec. 16 and accused of leaving the scene of a collision after an officer followed a trail of damaged street signs from a crash in the 2500 block of Kingsway Avenue to a street sign wedged underneath Doolin’s parked vehicle, police said.

BURGLARY: Anthony R. Walker, 57, Chicago, was arrested Dec. 18 and accused of burglary at Walgreens, 450 S. Schoolhouse Road, police said. Investigators recovered 212 over-the-counter medicine and hygiene products, police said

MEAT THEFT: Timothy E. Moffett, 49, Joliet, was arrested Dec. 16 and accused of stealing meat selling for $1,216.81 from Jewel-Osco, 475 Nelson Road, Dec. 15, police said.

Oak Lawn

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY: A back door was forced open at a home in the 10800 block of Lorel Avenue, the interior rummaged and cash taken Dec. 13.

Orland Park

RESISTING ARREST: Angelic G. Dunn, 36, Chicago, was accused of resisting arrest during a Nov. 19 traffic stop in the 15800 block of La Grange Road after kicking an officer in the shin while being taken into custody, police said.

DEALING ALLEGED: Passion L. Haywood, 33, 17000 block of Redbud Lane, Orland Park, was arrested Nov. 22 and accused of possessing a controlled substance with intent to deliver and possessing less than 500 grams of cannabis with intent to deliver after officers recovered 462 grams of suspected cannabis individually wrapped, five grams of suspected psylocibin mushrooms individually wrapped and $942 cash at 179th Street and La Grange Road, police said.

GUN POSSESSION: Lakayla M. Kimble, 22, Romeoville, was arrested Nov. 23 and accused of unlawful use of a weapon after officers recovered a stun gun at 159th Street and 80th Avenue and determined she lacked state gun permits, police said.

RECKLESS DRIVING: A Chicago man driving past Doogan Park at a high rate of speed left the road on his second pass, partially drove into a residential front yard and then returned to the road before hitting a light pole at the park, police said. Ramadan Abdelqader, 29, Chicago was arrested Nov. 25 and accused of reckless driving, driving on the sidewalk, failing to reduce speed to avoid a collision and squealing tires, police said.

Palos Heights

GUN POSSESSION: Jaylan J. Sweezer, 20, Chicago, was arrested and accused of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon Dec. 6 in the 7100 block of West College Drive after officers recovered a 9 mm pistol with a loaded extended magazine, police said. The minimum age for state gun permits is 21.

Park Forest

U-HAUL BURGLARIES: Several storage units were reported broken into at U-Haul, 2210 Western Ave., in early November.

SMASH, GRAB: Windows were reported smashed and possessions stolen Nov. 18 from four locked vehicles parked at the Ludeman Developmental Center.

GUN POSSESSION: Jim Collins, 71, 200 block of Lester Road, Park Forest, was arrested Dec. 1 and subsequently charged with unlawful use of a weapon after officers recovered a loaded .380 caliber pistol and determined he lacked a state gun permit, police said.

Steger

SHOTS FIRED: A 20-year-old University Park man shot Friday Dec. 20 afternoon was listed in critical condition Dec. 21, police said. Witnesses said a male fled on foot westbound on Richton Road from the site of the targeted shooting near Kings and Richton roads. Detectives obtained video footage from the area, witness statements and other information and are following up on several leads, police said.

Thornton

SHOTS FIRED: Shots were reported fired in a residential neighborhood south of Illinois 294 and east of Chicago Road the afternoon of Dec. 21, police said. The targeted action occurred near Indianwood and Arrowhead drives at about 5:40 p.m., police said.
