Ed Kranepool, the longest-tenured player in New York Mets history and a member of the Miracle Mets when they won the 1969 World Series, has died. He was 79.

The team said in a statement Monday that Kranepool died Sunday after suffering from cardiac arrest in Boca Raton, Florida. A native of New York, the first baseman/outfielder spent 18 seasons with the Mets, hitting .261 over 1,853 regular-season games. He was an All-Star in 1965.

Kranepool was part of New York’s magical run from National League laughingstock to a World Series title in 1969. He was inducted into the team’s hall of fame in 1990.

Kranepool made his major league debut on Sept. 22, 1962, at 17 years old. His final game was Sept. 30, 1979, against St. Louis.

Kranepool finished with 1,418 career hits and 118 homers in the regular season. He homered in Game 3 of the 1969 World Series.

METS 3, BLUE JAYS 2 >> Tyrone Taylor scored the tying run on a wild pitch in the eighth inning before fellow pinch-runner Eddy Alvarez dashed home on a passed ball as visiting New York rallied past Toronto on Monday night for its 10th victory in 11 games.

The surging Mets got six shutout innings of one-hit ball from fill-in starter Tylor Megill, who retired his last 16 batters and matched a season high with nine strikeouts.

New York bounced back after its nine-game winning streak was snapped Sunday by Cincinnati, moving a game ahead of Atlanta for the final National League wild card.

REDS 1, BRAVES 0 >> Nick Martinez pitched seven innings of two-hit ball, Ty France had an RBI double in the second inning and Cincinnati won at Atlanta in the makeup of a July rainout.

Martinez (8-6) struck out five and held the Braves hitless from the second through the seventh, retiring 17 straight batters in the process.

YANKEES 10, ROYALS 4 >> Austin Wells hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the seventh and added an RBI double in the eighth as New York pulled away for a home win over Kansas City.

The AL East-leading Yankees (83-61) surpassed last season’s win total and moved 11/2 games ahead of the Orioles.

Salvador Perez homered, went 4 for 4 and drove in the Royals’ first three runs.

PHILLIES 2, RAYS 1 >> Kody Clemens singled with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth after Tampa Bay had tied the score in the top of the inning, and Philadelphia beat the Rays.

Kyle Schwarber homered and Cristopher Sánchez pitched six shutout innings to help NL East-leading Philadelphia get its 48th home victory of the season.

Brandon Lowe hit the tying homer for the Rays off closer Carlos Estévez (4-4).

PIRATES 3, MARLINS 2 >> Paul Skenes struck out nine over six solid innings and Pittsburgh edged visiting Miami.

The 22-year-old Skenes (10-2) allowed one run on six hits, lowering his ERA to 2.10. Skenes also boosted his season strikeout total to 151, a Pirates rookie record, while winning his fourth straight decision.

Oneil Cruz hit his 19th home of the season for the Pirates. Bryan Reynolds added a two-run double off Valente Bellozo (2-3).
