CONCORD >> An 84-year-old man died Wednesday in a crash involving three vehicles, police said.

The wreck happened just in front of the El Pollo Loco restaurant in the 1500 block of Monument Boulevard, near Lacey Lane, about 5:53 p.m., Concord police Prov. Sgt. Murtazah Ghaznawi said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities did not identify him Thursday, pending the notification of his relatives.

Ghaznawi said by phone that a vehicle was pulling out from the restaurant parking lot on the north side of Monument Boulevard and was hit by another car as it pulled out. The force of the collision sent the car that pulled out of the parking lot into a car going in the opposite direction, he said.

No one else was injured in the wreck. Ghaznawi said alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor.

Police urged any witnesses to the crash to contact them at 925-671-5096.
