


ISU to honor athletes killed in plane crash when Boston hosts world champships
TALLINN, Estonia >> Figure skaters and others killed in the mid-air collision near Washington, D.C. this week will be honored when the world championships are staged in Boston in March.
International Skating Union president Jae Youl Kim held back tears on Friday in making the announcement during the European championships in Tallinn.
Skaters, coaches and family members on their way back from a national skating camp in Wichita, Kansas, were among those who died when a passenger jet hit a helicopter on Wednesday.
Bucs promote Grizzard to offensive coordinator
TAMPA, Fla. >> The Tampa Bay Buccaneers promoted pass game coordinator Josh Grizzard to offensive coordinator on Friday, replacing Liam Coen.
Grizzard becomes the fourth play-caller for the Buccaneers in four years. The previous two became head coaches after Baker Mayfield had Pro Bowl seasons under their guidance.
Jets hire Engstrand as OC and Broncos’ Banjo as special teams coordinator
The New York Jets hired Detroit Lions passing game coordinator Tanner Engstrand as their offensive coordinator and Broncos assistant special teams coach Chris Banjo as their special teams coordinator.
Former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks agreed to terms Wednesday to take that same job with the Jets.
Estévez finalizes $22M, 2-year deal with Royals
KANSAS CITY, Mo. >> Carlos Estévez joined Kansas City’s bullpen on Friday, finalizing a $22 million, two-year contract with the Royals.
The 32-year-old Estévez played for the Los Angeles Angels and Philadelphia last season, going 4-5 with a 2.45 ERA and 26 saves in 54 appearances.
Free agent Pena, Rockies’ Reyes suspended for positive drug tests
NEW YORK >>Free agent pitcher Jeison Pena was suspended for 80 games under baseball’s minor league drug program and Colorado Rockies pitcher Ulises Reyes for 56 games under the program for minor leaguers assigned outside of the United States and Canada.
Reyes, a 19-year-old right-hander, signed with Colorado in December 2023 for a $15,000 bonus and went 1-0 with a 7.00 ERA in 15 relief appearances last year for the Dominican Summer League Rockies.
Vegas signs Saad after Blues contract terminated
LAS VEGAS >> Brandon Saad spent less than an hour as a free agent, joining the Vegas Golden Knights fresh off the St. Louis Blues terminating his previous contract. Saad signed a contract Friday for the remainder of the season that’s worth a prorated $1.5 million. It came together just after he cleared unconditional waivers.
Dwyane Wade reveals 2023 kidney surgery to remove cancerous tumor
Hall of Fame player Dwyane Wade said doctors performed a December 2023 surgery on his kidney to remove a tumor later determined to be cancerous.
Wade said he had not had regular physical exams in a few years before seeing a doctor due to stomach and urinary issues. A full body scan discovered what he described as a “cyst/tumor” that led to the surgery, which Wade said removed 40% of his right kidney.
