Magic Johnson carried the prize to home plate as the announced crowd of 53,595 roared Thursday before the Dodgers’ home opener against the Tigers. The Dodgers won 5-4, with Teoscar Hernández hitting a three-run homer and Shohei Ohtani adding a solo shot. “It’s always great here, especially in front of the fans,” Hernández said. Players and staff will receive their World Series rings prior to Friday’s game. Los Angeles began the season in Tokyo this month with a pair of wins over the Cubs. In right field, a baseball with 2024 in blue lettering was unveiled by captains from the Los Angeles and Pasadena fire departments, joining the others marking the franchise’s World Series titles.
Mariners: Jorge Polanco and Randy Arozarena hit eighth-inning home runs and the Seattle Mariners rallied to beat the Athletics 4-2 on Thursday night. Polanco’s two-out, two-run home run to dead center field sealed the win after Arozarena tied it at 2-2 with a shot to left. Profar spent parts of the past five seasons with San Diego, and he had the best year of his career in 2024 with 24 homers and 85 RBIs before signing with Atlanta in January.
