James sits vs. Pacers to rest sore ankle
LeBron James sat out the Los Angeles Lakers’ game against Indiana to rest his sore left ankle.
The 40-year-old James has been outstanding in recent weeks for the Lakers, who have won four straight and 10 of 12 despite trading center Anthony Davis for Luka Doncic last weekend.
Despite dealing with regular ankle pain, James hadn’t missed a game since Dec. 28 against Sacramento, and he has missed only four games this season.
Simmons waived by Nets after buyout
Ben Simmons has been waived by the Brooklyn Nets after the team agreed to a buyout with the last remaining link to a failed era of building around All-Stars.
The No. 1 pick in the 2016 draft was acquired by the Nets in a trade for James Harden at the 2022 trade deadline.
Previously a three-time NBA All-Star, Simmons was limited during his time in Brooklyn by injuries, mostly due to lower back nerve damage.
Davis leaves first Mavs’ game due to injury
Anthony Davis left his debut game with the Dallas Mavericks after sustaining an injury late in the third quarter. The team said it was due to a lower-body injury.
Davis came to the Mavericks in the seismic trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. One of the many criticisms of the trade was Davis’ history of injuries.
The 31-year-old missed two games with the Lakers before the blockbuster deal because of an abdominal strain, and he sat the first two games with the Mavericks after joining the team.
Davis went down without contact and was favoring hisgroin area. He had 24 points, 13 rebounds, five assists and three blocks in the first half.
