Housing authority receives more veteran rental vouchers
Boulder County has been awarded 10 more rental assistance vouchers to support veterans with housing and other resources.
Through a program called Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing, the Boulder County Housing Authority can now help 90 veterans and their families cover their rent, according to a news release.
The county Housing Authority first received 25 VASH vouchers in 2012.
VASH now accounts for nearly 10% of the 984 housing assistance vouchers Boulder County provides, according to the release.
Many of the veterans with VASH vouchers have been able to save money to purchase their own homes, and others have remained in their affordable rentals, the release said.
To qualify for a VASH voucher, a veteran must be eligible for federal Veterans Affairs, or VA, health care services, be experiencing homelessness or at risk of it, and meet annual income guidelines of 80% of the Area Median Income, which for Boulder County is under $72,350 for a single individual or up to $82,700 for a two-person household, the release said.
Veterans who may want to apply for VASH vouchers can do any of the following:
Contact a nearby Veterans Affairs medical center and mention their interest in HUD/VASH, contact the National Homeless Veteran Call Center at 877-424-3838 or connect with the Boulder Vet Center at 303-440-7306.
