Two-way forward Braxton Key, on assignment from Golden State, and forward Blake Hinson combined for 51 points, and the Santa Cruz Warriors beat the Birmingham Squadron 113-100 in the teams’ NBA G League game, played in front of 2,094 fans at Legacy Arena at the BJCC in Alabama on Friday.

Key had 26 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Hinson had 25 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Teammate Jackson Rowe had 17 points, 14 rebounds, and four assists for his sixth double-double.

All five of the Warriors’ starters reached double digits in scoring. Guard Yuri Collins had 14 points, seven assists, and three rebounds. Guard Javan Johnson had 12 points and four rebounds.

Two-way guard Taran Armstrong was huge off the bench with seven points, eight assists, and six rebounds.

Reserve center Seth Maxwell made one field goal in his 11 minutes and 50 seconds of action, but his layup with 38:6 seconds left in the third quarter gave the Warriors the lead for good. Santa Cruz outscored the Squadron 31-19 in the fourth quarter.

The Warriors finished with 29 assists against 17 turnovers. They shot 54.9% (45 of 82) from the field, made 11 3-pointers, and outrebounded their opponent 48-37.

The Warriors (15-12) climbed into a three-way tie for fifth place in the Western Conference with seven games remaining in the regular season. They’ll face the host Squadron (11-18) again on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Santa Cruz remained the conference’s top road team. It has posted an 9-3 record away from Kaiser Permanente Arena.

Two-way forward Keion Brooks Jr. led the Squadron (11-18) with 25 points and six rebounds. Two-way guard Lester Quinones, a former Warrior, finished with 15 points, 10 assists, and three steals. Guard Davon Reed tallied 13 points and nine rebounds off the bench, while guard Trhae Mitchell put up 12 points, five rebounds, and two blocks.
