Almost 94 Years! San Lorenzo Martin William Fahey, March 4, 1931 - March 1, 2025 A resident of San Lorenzo, Martin William Fahey was born on March 4, 1931 at 5825 Colby Street in Oakland's Rockridge neighborhood, the ninth and final child of Mary Theresa Cox and Martin James Fahey, both of County Roscommon, Ireland. He was married 61 years to his loving wife, the late Angelyn Groholski, and was the father of four children; Elizabeth (David Birka-White), Valerie (Ron Heckmann), Kathleen (Doug Poulton), and Martin James (Kellie.) He was the adoring grandfather to eight grandchildren; Helen, Adam, Julia, Hadley, William, Henry, Kaitlyn and Shea, and great-grandfather to two great-grandchildren; Kiran and Neal, as well as a devoted uncle to many nephews and nieces. As a youngster he grew up and attended St. Augustine's in Oakland, CA, followed by St. Mary's High School in Berkeley, and San Mateo Community College. He served his country for two years in the Korean War inthe 1950s where he was fortunate to be stationed at Fort Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska. A lifelong chemist and technician, Marty began work at Shell Chemicals, moved over to Ampex Data Systems and concluded at the East Bay Municipal Utility District.
Marty was a longtime parishioner of St. John the Baptist where all four children attended school first through eighth grades. Over the years Marty and Angie voyaged to many different countries. Marty was an avid sports fan with asoft spot for the Cal Bears and atradition of enjoying decades of A's and Giants baseball games at Spring Training in Scottsdale, Arizona. He will be missed.
