Late last month in Dublin, California, the Woodland Soccer Club 2011 Boys Orange team won its second consecutive NorCal State Cup.

The boys’ 2011 squad won the cup on Feb. 25 by a score of 2-0, defeating 1974 Newark FC 11B. Oliver Delgado scored both goals, one of which came via a penalty kick.

“The whole team played with intensity and full effort for the majority of the game,” coach Carlos Torres stated. “They started strong, but the other team gained ground at the end of the first half. In the second half, our boys responded really well and regained control of the game. Oliver had a great game scoring both goals, but none of that could’ve been done without his teammates’ great assists and passing.

They moved the ball well and created many open spaces while playing hard-nosed defense. Our keeper, Gio, also played well overall and made two exceptional saves!”

Carlos mentioned that winning a State Cup once is no small feat, let alone in back-to-back seasons.

“We all can’t wait to see what these boys continue to accomplish in their soccer career and time here with Woodland Soccer Club,” he stated.

Members of the team include Logan W., Damian M., Yahir R., Jairo T., Maximo L., Xavi J, Isaac M, Damian R., Julian O, Dhruva P., Oliver D, Jonathan M, Giovanni O, Aaron P. and Danny M along with coach Torres and Saul Mejia.
