House, Mashburn lead No. 22 New Mexico over CSU

ALBUQUERQUE>> Jaelen House scored 26 points and Jamal Mashburn Jr. added 19 to lead No. 22 New Mexico to an 88-69 win Wednesday over Colorado State in the Mountain West opener for both teams.

Morris Udeze added a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds for the Lobos (13-0), who remained one of three unbeaten teams in the country.

After the Rams got out to a 5-0 lead, New Mexico responded with a 16-0 run fueled by four 3-pointers, including two from House, who had eight points in the span.

Colorado State cut the deficit to 52-36 early in the second but could get no closer.

OXFORD, Miss.>> Santiago Vescovi scored 22 points and combined with Zakai Zeigler to convert six free throws in the final 1:09, helping Tennessee to the win in the Southeastern Conference opener for both teams.

STARKVILLE, Miss.>> Mark Sears scored 20 points and Alabama pulled away in the second half in the Southeastern Conference opener for both teams.

BATON ROUGE, La.>> KJ Williams made a key steal and Adam Miller sank two free throws with 2 seconds left to lead LSU to over Arkansas. The Tigers (12-1, 1-0 Southeastern Conference) got a spinning layup from Trae Hannibal to go ahead 58-55 with 32 seconds remaining. A layup by Anthony Black after his offensive rebound got the Razorbacks (11-2, 0-1) within one once again.

SPOKANE, Wash.>> Drew Timme had 18 points and seven rebounds in 17 minutes, and Gonzaga raced past NAIA member Eastern Oregon for a program record for the largest margin of victory.

EVANSTON, Ill.>> Freshman Cotie McMahon scored 24 points, and No. 3 Ohio State pounded Northwestern.

OMAHA, Neb.>> Aaliyah Edwards had 23 points and a career-high 20 rebounds, Dorka Juhasz had a season-high 22 points and a career-high 18 boards, and UConn rode another fast start to victory over Creighton.

LINCOLN, Neb.>> Leigha Brown scored 20 points and No. 14 Michigan defeated Nebraska 76-59, giving coach Kim Barnes Arico her 500th career win.
