The Woodland Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees recently approved the hiring of a new principal for Maxwell Elementary School. Elizabeth Menendez, currently an assistant principal at Woodland High School, will begin her new role at the start of the 2025—26 school year.
Her appointment was approved during the board’s May 22 meeting.
According to a local press release, Menendez brings years of experience in education, with a diverse background that includes general education, English language development, special education, and adult ESL instruction. As a bilingual educator with experience teaching in elementary settings, she is deeply committed to fostering an inclusive environment where every student feels seen, supported, and empowered to succeed.
“I’m truly excited about the opportunity to take on the role as principal of Maxwell Elementary School,” Menendez said. “As a former English language learner, I am deeply committed to becoming the kind of administrator I needed during my own educational journey. I look forward to working with our students, families, and staff to build a welcoming, inclusive school culture where every student feels seen, valued, and capable.”
Menendez holds a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from UC Chico, a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, an Education Specialist Credential with Added Authorization in Autism, a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, and an Administrative Services Credential.
Superintendent Elodia Ortega-Lampkin welcomed Menendez to her new role at Maxwell.
“We are proud to welcome Mrs. Menendez as the new principal of Maxwell Elementary,” said Ortega-Lampkin. “She brings years of experience, a heart for service, and a passion for learning and teaching. Her experience and dedication to student success make her a wonderful fit for our Maxwell community.”
