Dec. 12, 1943 - Oct. 25, 2021

Carol Ann Mooney (nee McMains) was born on December 12, 1943, and passed away on October 25, 2021. She was the fourth child and first daughter for Marvin and Berdena McMains.

Born in Newhall, CA, she joined three brothers to become an instant tomboy, and coached a younger sister and much younger brother.

Carol Ann graduated from Stonehurst Elementary, Sun Valley Junior High and John H. Francis Polytechnic High schools. After high school she graduated from Azusa Pacific University, and later earned her Master of Arts in Education degree from the University of Redlands.

After graduation from APU Carol Ann immediately accepted a teaching position in Azusa, where she spent a career in educating elementary aged students at Mountain View Elementary and middle school aged children at Slauson Middle School. Her love of teaching at these schools was so great that she stayed in Azusa for 37 years even though she had a daily 55 mile commute one way from Newhall. Until her passing Carol Ann spent time continuing relationships with her fellow teachers in Azusa. A unique compliment paid to her capabilities was when a grandparent was excited about their grandchild having Mrs. Mooney as teacher for the upcoming school year - all because the grandparent had her as a teacher some years earlier.

Carol Ann was married for 36 years to Jack Mooney, and though they had no children of their own, Carol Ann had many students who would gladly see her as a loving mother figure.

Their home was always open to friends and family members in need.

Surviving Carol Ann are brothers Ed McMains of Beaverton, OR, and Jerry McMains of Canyon Country, CA, as well as sister Kathleen Vonada of Gig Harbor, WA. A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 AM on July 30, 2022, at the Church of the Canyons, 28050 Sand Canyon Rd., Canyon Country, CA 91387.
