


FELTON >> Firefighters with Cal Fire’s San Mateo-Santa Cruz Unit contained a fire Friday afternoon after it burned 2.3 acres in the Santa Cruz Mountains between Scotts Valley and Felton.
Crews responded to the Hermon Fire around noon. It was initially reported to be about 1-2 acres with a slow rate of spread. Multiple resources were dispatched to fight it including air support and at least one hand crew. A helicopter with Cal Fire was on the scene as of 12:12 p.m. and reported that no structures were under threat. As of 1:36 p.m., Cal Fire posted on social media that the fire was 100% contained.
The Scotts Valley Police Department announced hard closures of Mount Hermon Road at Conference Drive and Graham Hill Road. As a result of the fire, there was a power outage in the area of Mount Hermon Road and Covenant Lane that was expected to last for several hours.
