



Santa Cruz County girls track and field athletes produced nine event wins at the 22-team O’Condon Invitational at North Monterey County High on Saturday.
Santa Cruz sophomore Joy Roberts and St. Francis junior Peyton Orradre each turned in top-three finishes in three events.
Roberts took first in the 100-meter race (12.49 seconds), the second-fastest time in school history, and 200 (26.42). She also teamed with juniors Francesca Garces and Joy Hilldale and senior Amelia Palm for the win in the 4×100 relay (51.49).
Orradre either matched or broke school records with her wins in the 100 hurdles (17.00) and 300 hurdles (51.59), and took second in the triple jump (33 feet, 5 inches) with the second-best mark in school history.
Santa Cruz also saw freshman Isla Roake take first in the 3,200 (11:05.20), the fourth-best mark in school history.Other local event winners included Monte Vista Christian freshman Anna Conca in the 800 (2:25.52), the third-best mark in school history, Watsonville senior Katelynn Ruiz in the 1,600 (5:23.86), and San Lorenzo Valley senior Orea Pollock in the high jump (5-2)
St. Francis senior Faith Vokos took third in the high jump (4-4) and Pajaro Valley took third in the 4×400 relay (4:35.44).
NMC (91) won the team title and was followed in the standings by Alisal (75), and Stevenson (65). Santa Cruz (52) and St. Francis (52) tied four fourth, and Watsonville (29) took ninth.
Boys track and field
O’Condon Invitational >> Santa Cruz County produced six event wins at the 22-team O’Condon Invitational at North Monterey County High on Saturday.
Watsonville junior Lisandro Pantoja took first in the shot put (42-10.5) and discus (145-11) to lead the Wildcatz to the team title with 64 points. They were followed in the standings by Bret Harte (58) and North Monterey County (56.33). Pajaro Valley (52) took fourth, MVC (34) was seventh, and St. Francis (29.33) was 10th.
MVC had two event winners. Junior Conor Gilliam took first in the 800 (2:01.79) and second in the 400 (52.70), and classmate Gavin Beckmen took first in the 3,200 (10:10.28), the second best time in school history.
Pajaro Valley senior Izaak Ocampo took first in the long jump (21-3), and St. Francis (Joseph Dayrit, Robert Gomez Jr., and Coy Jordan, and sophomore Vince Tovar) took first in the 4×100 relay in a school-record 45.10.
The Wildcatz also had two runner-up finishes, sophomore Nain Garcia-Ferria took second in the 1,600 (4:36.37) and senior Gerardo Acosta-Perez took second in the 110 hurdles (18.36).
Santa Cruz junior Kaden Steel took second in the 300 hurdles (46.26), Pajaro Valley senior Aron Bernabe took second in the shot put (42-5) with the second-best distance in school history, St. Francis junior Jacob Jimenez took second in the triple jump (39-7.5), and Pacific Collegiate sophomore Jude Holmlund took second in the pole vault (11-0).
Pajaro Valley junior Giovanni Villanueva took third in the 300 hurdles (47.15). He also teamed with sophomore Andrew Chavez, junior Isaias Villasana, and Ocampo for third in the 4×100 relay (45.50), the third-best mark in school history.
Watsonville junior Leonel Jarquin took third in the discus (116-11).
Climbing
YCL Spring Championship >> Pacific Edge had four athletes earn top-three finishes at the NorCal Youth Climbing League Spring Series Championship at Pacific Edge in Santa Cruz on Saturday.
Doren Brady took first place in the girls’ 15-plus division in route climbing and Mia Furnish took third. Johnny Mayo took second in the boys’ 10-12 division in route climbing, and Ilia Terre took third in the girls’ 13-14 division in both bouldering and route climbing.
Men’s track and field
Mike Fanelli Track Classic >> UC Santa Cruz junior Levi Laden took first place in the 400 (49.46) at Mike Fanelli Track Classic at San Francisco State University on Saturday. Banana Slugs freshmen Shiven Karnik (49.72) and Shiv Mohan (49.97) took third and fourth, respectively.
Laden and Karnik also teamed with Nathan Bruhn and Aaron Hillberg for second place in the 4×400 relay (3:20.84).
Banana Slugs sophomore Erik Dodge took second in the pole vault (14-9). UCSC senior Eric Anderson took second at the 1,500-meter (3:45.02) on Friday and fifth in the 800 (1:51.09) on Saturday.
UCSC junior Sotirios Kougiouris took third in the 110 hurdles (15.67) and fifth in the 400 hurdles (57.07).
Graeme Maclean, Camden Jaureguy, Hillberg, and Bruhn took fourth in the distance medley (10:15.75).
Freshman Arthur Gainant took fifth in the 100 (10.85) and senior teammate James Contini took sixth (11.02).
Biola senior Aidan Tomasini, an Aptos alum, took sixth in the Shannon Rowbury Mile race (4:13.97).
Zachery Castiglione of Santa Cruz Track Club took second in the mixed mile masters (4:51.71).
Women’s track and field
Mike Fanelli Track Classic >> UCSC’s Camille Anneet, Amaya Cummins, Caitlin Donovan, and Mae Stafford took first place in the 4×400 relay (4:07.67) at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic at San Francisco State University on Saturday.
UCSC sophomore Kenzie Seymour took second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (10:52.21) on Friday, and senior teammate Amaya Cummins took fourth in the 100 (12.55) on Saturday.

At Southwestern 4, UCSC 3 >> The Banana Slugs suffered a narrow loss in Georgetown, Texas, on Sunday.
The Banana Slugs play a doubleheader on Friday, taking on Piedmont (10-9) at 12:30 p.m. and LaGrange (6-10) at 2 p.m. in LaGrange, Georgia.
