‘Fairly quiet,’ sunny spring days ahead

Boston is in for a mostly sunny, warm and dry stretch headed into the next week, according to National Weather Service forecasts.

“For most of the week, it’s actually fairly quiet, with a few very light chances for precipitation during the actual week,” said NWS meteorologist Torry Dooley. “We’ll be looking at a nice return to some mild temperatures, especially Monday and Tuesday.”

The week is expected to kick off with warm, sunny days well above seasonal average temperatures Monday and Tuesday. The high Monday is expected to reach 73 degrees, NWS forecasts show, before shooting up to what is expected to be the “warmest day of the week” Tuesday with a high around 77 degrees.

The average high for late April in Boston is typically around 61 to 62 degrees, Dooley said.

Both days are forecasted to remain sunny and clear, NWS states, with a southwest wind expected to pick up some Tuesday. NWS forecasts show gusts may reach up to 24 mph throughout Tuesday.

With gusty winds expected over the water, especially Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday evening, Dooley said, another small craft advisory may take effect off the Boston coast around that time. Small craft advisories, which warn of hazardous conditions for inexperienced mariners and especially those operating smaller vessels, are “fairly common this time of year,” Dooley said.

On Wednesday, temperatures are forecasted to drop slightly to a high in the lower 70s, with sunny skies likely to remain, NWS states.

“Wednesday night, we’ll have some fairly breezy northwest winds, and that’s going to help to drive temperatures down,” said Dooley. “We’ll have temperatures right in Boston probably in the mid 40s, but you get just outside of Boston, like the 495 corridor, your temperatures are going to be in the upper 30s, and that’s going to be Wednesday night into Thursday morning.”

From Thursday through the weekend, high temperatures are likely to remain in the slightly cooler low 70s to upper 60s. Skies are forecasted to remain clear through Thursday, NWS states.

“It’s a mainly dry week with the next chance for any widespread rain, possibly Friday morning,” said Dooley. “We’ll have a weak low-pressure system passing on through. And then potentially again on Saturday with another passage of a low pressure system. So the next widespread chances for rain would be Friday into Saturday.”
