Maura Tierney joining the new season of “Law & Order” is just what the doctor ordered.
The Golden Globe Award winner, known for her roles in “ER,” “NewsRadio” and “The Affair,” is set to become a series regular in the upcoming 24th season of the Dick Wolf procedural, in which she’ll play a police lieutenant.
Tierney’s casting follows the recent departures of series regulars Sam Waterston and Camryn Manheim at the end of last season, which wrapped in May.
For Season 23, “Scandal” star Tony Goldwyn and Reid Scott joined Hugh Dancy, Odelya Halevi and Mehcad Brooks to round out the ensemble.
Tierney, who co-stars in Universal’s box-office blockbuster “Twisters,” has been on a roll since departing her 10-year turn as nurse-turned-physician Abby Lockhart on “ER.” The two-time Emmy nominee’s recent credits also include the Showtime dramas “Your Honor” and “American Rust.”
Season 24 of “Law & Order” is set to premiere Oct. 3 on NBC.
‘Bridgerton’ Season 4 to focus on Benedict, Sophie: Netflix has confirmed that “Bridgerton” Season 4 will spotlight the romance between Benedict and Sophie.
The streamer tweeted recently that Benedict Bridgerton, played by Luke Thompson, will star in the fourth installment of the Emmy-winning romance, which will also feature Sophie Beckett — whose casting has yet to be announced.
Netflix also released a teaser announcing the news. “Benedict Bridgerton’s Season 4 story? Let us pour some tea...” Netflix wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Despite his elder and younger brothers both being happily married, Benedict is loath to settle down — until he meets a captivating Lady in Silver at his mother’s masquerade ball.”
Based on Julia Quinn’s book series of the same name, each book and season of “Bridgerton” centers on one of the eight Bridgerton siblings’ love lives in London high society. The books’ third installment, “An Offer From a Gentleman,” does focus on the Benedict- Sophie story but hadn’t previously gotten the small screen treatment.
‘Veep’ viewership surges: When Vice President Kamala Harris announced her Democratic presidential bid, social media posts began making comparisons to “Veep,” the critically acclaimed HBO series in which Julia Louis- Dreyfus plays the vice president, eventually taking over as the president.
As it turns out, the renewed interest in the political satire — which aired from 2012 through 2019 — is translating into soaring viewership rates. As first reported by Deadline, “Veep” viewership on Max was up 353% recently with 2.2 million total minutes watched, according to Luminate’s Streaming Viewership data.
In the TV show, Louis- Dreyfus’ Selina Meyer is vice president alongside President Stewart Hughes (who’s never seen on camera). By the second season of the show, Hughes abruptly resigns from office, citing his wife’s health, and Meyer becomes POTUS.
Deadline also reported a similar surge in viewership for “Hillbilly Elegy,” the movie adaption of JD Vance’s memoir following the news that former President Donald Trump had selected Vance as his running mate.
Netflix viewership for the film grew by 1,180% in 24 hours after Trump announced Vance’s involvement.
