To those unwilling to get the COVID-19 vaccination, think of others in your family not just yourself. Don’t be selfish. You want to leave your family to struggle without you? My elderly neighbor couple would always sit outside together, but because of his stubbornness, now she sits outside by herself. Guess he showed her.

The governor of Florida has issued orders blocking businesses from requiring that patrons show proof of vaccination and schools from requiring masks. It seems to me the governor is telling businesses how to run their business. What seems to be something done in the name of freedom is really a restriction of freedom and open season on common sense. Sound familiar?

Thank you Gov. Pritzker for mandating masks in all P-12 schools. It takes guts to take the pressure off school districts and deal with the heat. Especially when looking to get reelected.

All you hear with Democrats telling us we need to wear masks and avoid crowds. Hypocrisy once again. Washington Mayor Bowser shown with no mask on at large wedding reception. Lori Lightfoot shown with no mask on in large outing. I guess the coronavirus or delta variant doesn’t affect Democrats. Proves Democrats motto, rules for thee not for me.

It should come as no surprise that the $15 million earmarked to begin an environmental cleanup of the former Tinley Park Mental Health Center was funneled elsewhere. The state hasn’t cared about this dangerous eyesore even before its closure, why would anyone think they’d care now? How about a billboard on that corner calling out the state’s abandonment of this property with photos of the elected officials responsible for this monumental failure?

Does anybody watch the Olympics? Does anybody remember the U.S. hockey team or even, hey, Bruce Jenner? Many others, those names just come to mind. What have we got now? A lot of spoiled, snot-nosed little activists that are mediocre at best. This is what’s happening to the Olympics. What a shame.

To BJ from Hazel Crest, I can tell you one thing. There is no substitute for ambition in this world. If people aren’t willing to improve themselves and better their lives, then they never will. Learned helplessness is a problem these days, people blame their own shortcomings and failures on institutions and others. I knew a guy who wanted to earn his GED but refused to study. He was given a private tutor and a mentor. He enrolled in free prep classes, but rarely attended. I could write a 500 page book on how much help this one guy received. After six years, he never got his GED and he blamed his failure on us.

According to the AP story in the Southtown, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer shared his true feelings on quickly passing their huge, 2,700-page, pork filled infrastructure bill. He said they’d start voting on amendments, the longer it takes to finish the bill, the longer we will be here. Sounds like Pelosi’s famous quote. Let’s just sign it so we can go home. We’ll read and worry about its effects on the country and people later. Democratic Congress, thinking of themselves first.

Tom, you said so-called insurrection, are you just like the Trumpist congressmen who said it was just a tourist jaunt through the Capitol? Watch the videos. It was a treasonous insurrection led by white nationalists and paramilitary groups who beat the police they say they love, with American flags on polls, baseball bats and Trump flag polls, bear spray, etc. As for Cheney and Kinzinger, two real Republicans whose voting records are way more conservative than their so-called leader McCarthy. Yes, they are traitors, but only to the Big Lie.

Cal Thomas’ article on Kristi Noem seemed to be promoting her for a run for president. Noem lives in South Dakota and believes that everyone has rights. People have rights, but we also live in a shared world and sometimes peoples’ rights have to take a back seat to what is good for our planet. Her ignorance of the pandemic, her disregard for the environment just to have a fireworks display, her seeming disrespect for the sovereignty of Native Americans, please stay in South Dakota. You are not presidential material.

For the sake of the overall health of mankind, the media needs to change course. So many people are sold on whatever they read and listen to day after day. There are more positive people in the world than the gloom and doom, biased reporting would lead you to believe. What is the purpose of this type of journalism? It is not honest. It is not helping to unite us. We deserve better. Especially the overzealous that think their way is the only way!

At the end of 1960, the world population was 3.03 billion people. Sixty years later in 2020 the world population was 7.79 billion people. That is a lot of carbon dioxide and methane that can melt the ice caps and cause climate change. It’s probably more than the 1.4 billion cars worldwide on the road today.

What made Chicago the fun city was Riverview Park. It brought people from every neighborhood for a day of fun. There was two cents day. For a dollar you had the time of your life. Food and games were plentiful. Gone but not forgotten.
