



Guard Yuri Collins recorded his 10th double-double of the season, but the Santa Cruz Warriors lost 125-117 to Memphis in NBA G League action at Kaiser Permanente Arena on Saturday night.
Collins finished with 24 points, 13 assists, and seven rebounds for the Warriors (12-10), who are tied for fifth place in the Western Conference.
Two other starters scored 20-plus points for Santa Cruz. Forward Javan Johnson had 22 points, five rebounds and three steals and forward Blake Hinson had 22 points and seven rebounds.
Center Cheikh Mbacke Diong recorded his first double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Guard Marcus Burk tallied 13 points and a game-high four steals.
Guard David Johnson came off the bench for the Hustle (12-10) and led both teams in scoring with 28 points. Forward/center Armando Bacot had 21 points and 15 rebounds, and guard Malachi Smith also scored 21 points and pulled down 5 boards. Guard DJ Steward totaled 17 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds, and forward Miles Norris contributed 14 points.
Santa Cruz hosts Wisconsin (11-13) at KP Arena on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Women’s basketball
At Sequoias 98, Cabrillo 57 >> Freshman guard Sydney Chesnut and freshman forward Gabby Brooks each scored 21 points, but the No. 16 seed Seahawks lost to the No. 1 Giants in the second round of the CCCAA NorCal Regional playoffs on Saturday in Visalia.
Chesnut made seven 3-pointers and Brooks made three 3s. Sophomore forward Renee Parker chipped in with nine points, eight rebound, and eight assists for the Seahawks (19-11).
Sophomore guard Morgan Trigueiro made seven of the Giants’ 14 3s and finished with 29 points.
Sophomore guard Jocelyn Medina had 22 points and 13 rebounds for the Giants (29-0). Sophomore guard Anisa Torres scored 13 points, and freshman forward Kaitlin Giacone had 12 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists.
Men’s volleyball
At UC Santa Cruz 3, Menlo 1 >> Nico Espinoza had 20 kills in the NCAA Division III Banana Slugs’ 25-17, 25-23, 22-25, 25-21 win over the D-II Oaks at the West Field House on Saturday.
Riley Norman had 12 kills, 11 digs, and five assists for UCSC (14-5). Kyle Ownbey had nine kills, setter Caio Valente made 40 assists, and Dylan Foreman had 13 digs.

K-Bell Classic >> Santa Cruz senior Eli Fitchen-Young took first in the 1,600 (4:15.21) and Soquel’s senior Tomas Church shared the top mark in the high jump (6-0) at the K-Bell Classic at Westmont High in Campbell on Saturday.
Soquel senior Logan Walters took third in both the 100 (11.24) and pole vault (13-6), and Watsonville junior Lisandro Pantoja took third in the discus (139-4).
Santa Cruz Coast Relays >> Aptos senior Logan Brantley took first in the shot put (53 feet, 8 inches) and discus (160-8) at the Santa Cruz Coast Relays at Aptos High on Saturday. Pajaro Valley senior Izaak Ocampo (long jump, 21-5) and Aptos sophomore Sam Hansen (mile, 4:35.15) also earned wins.
Aptos’ Damian Suchil, Scott Catesi, Casey MacConnell, and Deric Moren teamed for first in the 4×200 relay (1:34.22).
The Mariners’ Andrew Pursley, Ethan Henry, Daniel Perez-Corona, and Anthony Sandford-Carroll teamed for first in the 4×800 relay (9:08.76), and Sandford-Carroll, Vincent Sandford-Carroll, Brady Bliesner, and Hansen took first in the distance medley relay (10:53.22).
Girls track and field
K-Bell Classic >> Archbishop Mitty senior Evangeline Marheineke, a Santa Cruz resident, took second in the 3,200 (11:33.88) at the K-Bell Classic at Westmont High in Campbell on Saturday.
Santa Cruz Coast Relays >> Aptos sophomore Bella Hartnett was a part of four wins at the Santa Cruz Coast Relays at Aptos High on Saturday.
Hartnett and classmate Scarlett Stateler tied for first in the triple jump (32-9). Aptos’ Siena Black, Ella Boyes, Hartnett, and Izzy Graff teamed for first in the 4×100 relay (50.23), 4×200 (1:46.73), and sprint medley relay (1:53.53).
MVC sophomore Finley Castro (mile, 5:36.77), Aptos sophomore Ellie Marta (discus, 95-10), and Mariners junior Ella Boyes (long jump, 16-3) also earned wins.
Aptos’ Naomi Brunelli, Sophie Cornish, Mia Parello, and Maya Schiro teamed for first in the 4×800 relay (11:41.68) and distance medley relay (14:27.54).
College baseball
At Cabrillo 9, Skyline 2 >> Malakai DuBreuil had two hits, four RBI, and a run scored in the Seahawks’ nonconference win Saturday.
Kaiden Hoapili and Jayson Schmeisser each had two hits and scored twice for the Seahawks (5-11). Truett Ross had two hits, two RBI, and scored a run, and Diego Grabiel had a hit and two RBI.
Santino Nanez and Jacob DuFrene each had a hit and run scored for the Trojans (11-5).
Anders Page-Roth (4-1) pitched five innings for the win, and
Cabrillo plays at De Anza (10-6) on Tuesday at 2 p.m.

At Soquel 9, Woodside 3 >> Hudson Summerrill had a hit and three RBI in the Knights’ nonleague win Saturday.
Jake Escalante and Gabe Virgallito each had two hits and scored twice for Soquel.
Dylan Hull pitched five innings and earned the win for the Knights (3-0), who play at Pacific Grove (1-0) on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
At St. Francis 12, Pacheco 2 >> Javier Fonseca had two hits and three RBI in the Sharks’ nonleague win Saturday.
Nash Horton had two hits and scored twice for St. Francis, and Noah Magana had two RBI and scored twice. Evan Dyer and Donovan Dominguez also scored twice.

Watsonville >> The Wildcatz went 4-0 at the Watsonville Tournament on Saturday. They beat Scotts Valley 6-3, Greenfield 20-3, Santa Cruz 3-0, and Los Altos 7-1.
Junior Mia Espinoza led the way on offense. She had nine hits, four RBI, and scored six runs. Layla Romero had five hits, four RBI, and scored five runs. Jillian Lerma had four hits, three RBI, and seven runs scored.
Watsonville (4-0) plays at Aragon (1-5) on Thursday at 4 p.m.
Scotts Valley >> The Falcons went 1-2 at the Watsonville Tournament on Saturday. They lost 6-3 to the host Wildcatz, 3-2 to Notre Dame Belmont, and routed North Monterey County 16-2.
Bella Williams and Ava Grundy each had three hits, one RBI, and scored three runs in the Falcons’ win. Chloe Kent had a hit and three RBI. Gracie Delgado and Jazzy Phillips each had two RBI and scored twice. Taylor Wilson also scored three runs.
Scotts Valley (2-2) plays at Leigh (2-0) on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
MVC >> The Mustangs beat American of Fremont 15-1 and lost to Kennedy of Fremont 6-2 in a nonleague doubleheader on Saturday.
Kayla Fullalove-Silveira had three hits, two RBI, and four runs scored in the Mustangs’ win. Ava Alvarado scored three runs, Harper Whitby and Juliana Lopez each had three RBI, and Gianna Johnson had three hits and scored twice.
MVC (2-1) hosts Gonzales on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
Santa Cruz >> The Cardinals lost Watsonville 3-0 and beat Alvarez 8-3 at the Watsonville Tournament on Saturday.
Ellia Dunton had two hits, two RBI, and two runs scored in the Cardinals’ win. Rona Lewis had two RBI, and Makayla Norman scored twice.
