Napa

Michael D. Nave passed away on March 15, 2025 with complications from pneumonia in Napa, California. Michael (Mike) was born on July 19, 1950 in San Rafael, California to William Nave II and Louise Nave, both of whom predeceased him. He is survived by his three daughters, two sons in law and six grandchildren, Lisa Nave (Jake and Aidan), Victoria Nave (John Berri, Payton and Reid) and Mika Gomez (Fernando Gomez, Connie and Fernando Jr.), his four siblings, William Nave III, Nancie (Tom), Marianne (Leonard) and Susie (Greg), as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends.

Mike was jovial, down to earth and always uniquely himself. For the last 50 years he never wavered and sported a handlebar mustache and cowboy boots. If you met him you wouldn't forget him. He loved a good joke and a long story. He sang often and was infinitely patient, especially with his daughters.

He started Nave Construction in his 20s and built beautiful custom homes throughout Marin. He had an eye for finding unique hillside lots surrounded by mature trees with unrivaled views. He left a legacy of homes with his signature style from Pt. Reyes to San Rafael.

Mike valued nature and craftsmanship. He tended to vegetable gardens and made his own olive oil, bread and wine. He foraged for porcini mushrooms and in his younger years dove for abalone. Whether driving vintage trucks with his dog sitting shotgun, riding horses, or working on one of his many inventions, he was never one to remain static - there was always something new to do, learn or dream about.

If you knew Mike you would be greeted with a warm handshake and a smile and he would offer to buy you a drink. If he loved you he really loved you and he told you often.

He had a deep affection for his grandfather, William Nave I, and often told stories about gardening with him. If he is anywhere now, we hope he’s gardening with his grandfather.
