Suspect wanted in Denver killing is still at large, Marshals Service says

A 34-year-old man wanted on suspicion of first-degree murder is still at large after more than a year, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Jesus Angel Arvizo is a suspect in the death of James “Jay” Montoya, who was reported missing after leaving a Lakewood bar in April 2023 and whose remains were found in Saguache County in July 2023. Investigators believe Arvizo shot Montoya while they were in a vehicle in Denver’s Globeville neighborhood.

Arvizo also is wanted by the U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force in Colorado Springs, the agency said Friday.

Arvizo allegedly got into an argument with Montoya after the pair left a Lakewood bar and shot him when the argument escalated. Denver police identified him as a suspect in the case in October 2023.

Arvizo, who the Marshals Service also identified as “Arviso,” has family in the Alamosa area and ties to New Mexico. He’s described as white, 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts can submit a tip by calling 1-877-926-8332, usmarshals.gov or through the USMS Tips app.

On Oct. 21, police responded to the Plate Valley Youth Services center on reports of a contraband narcotics violation, police said in a news release.

Detention center workers told police that they found the teen unresponsive in his cell at 6:48 a.m.

He was taken to a hospital.
