A high school teacher working in Yolo County was arrested on sexual misconduct charges after sheriff’s officials learned of allegations that she had a sexual relationship with an underage student in Monterey County.
Mika Marie Yoneda, 25, was booked on five felony charges Tuesday at the Monterey County Jail. She was arrested on suspicion of having sex with a minor, committing lewd and lascivious acts with a minor, sex acts with a minor, contact with a minor with sexual intent and arranging a meeting with a minor with sexual intent, jail records show.
Yoneda’s bail amount was set at $1.5 million. Her arraignment hearing had not been scheduled in Monterey Superior Court.
The teacher was taken into custody at Woodland High School, where she’s currently employed as an English teacher, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday in a news release. Sheriff’s officials said investigators were not aware of any alleged wrongdoing involving students from the Woodland area.
Woodland Joint Unified School District officials on Tuesday encouraged anyone with information that may be related to this investigation to contact the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.
“At this time, we are not aware of any WJUSD students who are connected to this criminal investigation,” school district spokesman Jerry Jimenez said in a written statement. “However, we are cooperating with the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, and the teacher has been placed on administrative leave pending the results of the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office investigation.”
Before working in Yolo County, Yoneda was a teacher at North Monterey County High School starting in 2022 before she left that job in 2023, sheriff’s officials said.
The Sheriff’s Office received a report of an underage male student at North Monterey County High School who had been involved in a sexual relationship with a teacher. Sheriff’s officials said the teacher suspected in the alleged sex misconduct was later identified as Yoneda.
While Yoneda worked at the Monterey County school, she also worked as a private tutor, sheriff’s officials said.
