The next phase of work on Dequindre Road starts on Monday, Oct. 28.

This is a joint project between the Great Lakes Water Authority and the Oakland County’s road commission.

This part of Dequindre forms the border between Rochester and Rochester Hills in Oakland County and Shelby Township in Macomb County.

Dequindre Road between 23 Mile and 24 Mile roads will be closed to through traffic starting Monday, Oct. 28 through next fall, part of the ongoing project to relocate a 96-inch water transmission main so it is out of residential and business yards and to improve traffic flow and safety.

An estimated 14,700 vehicles travel this section of Dequindre Road daily, according to road commission officials.

This water main serves several communities in Oakland, Macomb and Lapeer counties.

Dequindre Road between Avon and Hamlin roads reopens on Friday, Oct. 25.

The project is meant to improve access for maintenance and operating work as well as traffic flow and pedestrian safety at intersections.

GLWA officials said there are no plans to disrupt water services to any of the communities during the work.

Residents and business owners will continue to have access to their properties north and south of the closed section of Dequindre.

The detour for through traffic will be 23 Mile Road to Shelby Road, north to 24 Mile Road, west to Dequindre Road, and vice versa.

The project includes:

• Installing 8,000 linear feet of 96-inch diameter welded steel pipe starting on Dequindre Road between Avon and Hamlin Roads, followed by Dequindre Road between 23 Mile Road and the Macomb Orchard Trail;

• Reconstructing Dequindre Road between Hamlin Road and the Macomb Orchard Trail;

• Replacing the elliptical corrugated metal pipe culvert with a new concrete box culvert at the Honeywell Ditch.
