Atlanta police are treating the death of a former head basketball coach at two Georgia universities as a homicide after his body was found in the city shortly after his family reported him missing.

The body of Sammy Jackson, a former men’s coach at Fort Valley State University and Savannah State University, was located Wednesday in a wooded area in northwest Atlanta with apparent gunshot wounds, according to the Atlanta Police Department, news outlets reported.

Jackson’s family reported him missing to the Peach County sheriff’s office in central Georgia. His wife told investigators that she last heard from him late Sunday when he was about to start working for a food delivery service, according to an incident report. Atlanta police said Jackson was a rideshare driver.

Authorities found his abandoned car Monday in Houston County, which is roughly 110 miles south of Atlanta.

Atlanta police said in a news release Friday that a man who ordered a ride in Houston County before Jackson’s disappearance has been identified and is a person of interest in the case. The man was in the Houston County Jail on an unrelated robbery charge, the release says.

Jackson was head men’s basketball coach at Fort Valley State from 2011-2018 and Savannah State from 1999-2000. He also held assistant roles at the University of Alabama, Georgia Southern University, Alabama A&M University and Tennessee State University, according to a 2011 release from Fort Valley State.

Social media posts this week were posted by people who knew Jackson and recalled him as a kind man who helped others.

“I think everybody would like some answers and wants justice for Sammy,” said Kareem Kenney, a former assistant coach under Jackson.

The Dallas Cowboys hired Arizona Cardinals offensive line coach Klayton Adams as their offensive coordinator, following through on a plan to revamp the running game under new coach Brian Schottenheimer.

Schottenheimer is planning to call the plays, just as former coach Mike McCarthy did the past two seasons when Schottenheimer was Dallas’ offensive coordinator.

The addition of Adams completes Schottenheimer’s lineup of lead coordinators. Former Chicago coach Matt Eberflus, who was fired 12 games into this season, is returning to the Cowboys as defensive coordinator. It’s his second stint on the Dallas staff. Nick Sorensen will run special teams.

Adams was with the Cardinals the past two seasons after spending the previous four with Indianapolis.

Three additional massage therapists have accused Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker of sexually inappropriate conduct, the Baltimore Banner reported Saturday.

The news website said nine massage therapists from five spas and wellness centers now have shared accounts with the Banner. In its initial report Thursday, the Banner said it spoke to six massage therapists who recounted firsthand experiences with Tucker from 2012 to 2016. Several therapists said they ended Tucker’s sessions early or refused to work on him again, and managers from two spas said they banned him from returning.

Tucker said Thursday in a statement that he has never received any complaints from a massage therapist or been told he was not welcome at a spa or other place of business.

The NFL has said it will look into the matter, and the Ravens said they would continue to monitor the situation.

The Connecticut Sun are finalizing two deals, one to send DiJonai Carrington to Dallas and the other to trade Rebecca Allen to Chicago, multiple sources reported.

The Sun will get Jacy Sheldon and the No. 8 pick from the Wings. Connecticut will also give up the No. 12 pick.

Allen, who they were acquiring from the Phoenix Mercury as part of the Alyssa Thomas trade, will go to Chicago for Lindsay Allen and the rights to Nikolina Milic.

Saturday was the first day that teams could officially sign free agents and make trades.

Carrington is coming off a career season when she averaged 12.7 points, 5 rebounds and 1.6 steals for the Sun. She earned the league’s Most Improved Player award.

Sheldon played in all 40 games last season for the Wings, including starting in 26 of them. The fifth pick in last year’s draft averaged 5.4 points and 2.5 assists.

Rebecca Allen played in 18 games for Phoenix last year before hurting her hamstring that kept her out of the Olympics for Australia. The wing averaged 7.4 points and 3.9 rebounds in 18 starts for the Mercury.

Lindsay Allen played in all 40 games for Chicago last season, averaging 6.6 points and 3.9 assists.
