Boulder police have re-arrested a woman accused of menacing a group of school children on Monday. She now faces about 35 new charges, according to police.

The woman, 52-year-old Alyiah Vega, has been claiming to be 31-year-old Alyssa Barger. Police confirmed Friday that Barger is actually Vega’s family member.

“Vega, 52, initially gave another family member’s information when being arrested, and, due to the fact that she’s used numerous aliases through the years, this name is different than what was previously released,” Boulder police wrote in a post on X.

Vega initially faced one charge of felony menacing after reportedly following a teacher and a group of children in the 1700 block of Broadway around 11 a.m. Monday, according to a press release.

Vega was released on a $5,000 personal recognizance bond on Tuesday, according to online court records. A personal recognizance bond is where someone pays the bond amount if they fail to appear for future court hearings. She was set to appear for her filing of charges hearing on Thursday, but did not show up to court, prompting a warrant to be issued for her arrest.

Police noted that the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office had argued for a secure bond, which is a bond Vega would have been required to post money for to be released.

In total, Vega faces 19 charges of felony menacing and 17 charges of negligent child abuse resulting in no injuries, according to online court records.

In the Monday incident, Vega got within 10 feet of the teacher and children and threatened to kill them, waving a knife around, according to witnesses. The teacher and students walked away and were uninjured.

Police found Vega a short time later near 17th Street and Arapahoe Avenue, according to the release.

At the time of her re-arrest, Vega also faced active arrest warrants in Boulder County, Lakewood and Edgewater related to dangerous drugs, criminal impersonation and DUI charges, according to the release.
