October 26, 1939 - October 18, 2024 South Pasadena, CA Robert Voorhis Rhodes, Sr., age 84, died peacefully at his South Pasadena, CA home surrounded by his loving family on October 18, 2024.
Robert was born to Robert Edgar Rhodes and Virginia Voorhis Rhodes on October 26, 1939 in Pasadena, California.
A life-long learner, Robert was educated at Polytechnic School in Pasadena, CA, Midland School in Santa Inez Valley, CA, Menlo College in Menlo Park, CA, and Art Center School of Design in Pasadena, CA. He also served in the Marine Corps Reserves.
Robert was known for his kindness, generosity, love of invention and entrepreneurship, and his fun-loving humor.
He was a poet and published author of children’s books: Bah Koo: ABedtime Story, (1986) and Bah Koo: A Special Friend to Us All (2015).
Robert’s business career included client management at Great Western Savings & Loan and work as an independent real estate broker, including management of The Douglas Building, an historic structure located in downtown Los Angeles.
He is survived by his wife of42years, Nancy Rhodes, his son, Robert Rhodes, Jr. (known as Robby), daughter-in-law Callie, his grandson Henry, his sisters, Nancy Burrows and Molly Rhodes, two nephews, Bill Burrows and Robert Burrows and their families. Robert is also survived by four cousins.
Funeral services will be private. Contributions can be made in Robert’s name to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and World Vision.
