San Francisco 49ers rookie receiver Ricky Pearsall will be activated and make his NFL debut Sunday against Kansas City 50 days after he was shot in the chest.

Pearsall made it through his first week back at practice with no issues and will officially be taken off the non-football injury list, coach Kyle Shanahan said Friday.

Shanahan didn’t know how long Pearsall would take to get up to speed but was pleased with what he saw during the week of practice for him to play against the defending champion Chiefs at home.

Pearsall was shot in the chest during a robbery attempt in San Francisco’s Union Square area and was hospitalized overnight. He avoided damage to any organs and nerves and was back working out at the team facility the following week.

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers is expected to miss his second game in a row because of an ankle injury when Las Vegas visits the Rams on Sunday.

Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane said he cleared concussion protocol and is hoping to play Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.

The Carolina Panthers are on a three-game losing streak and now they have a growing list of injuries to deal with entering Sunday’s game at Washington. The Panthers (1-5) ruled out linebackers Josey Jewell (hamstring/groin), Claudin Cherelus (hamstring) and Jon Rhattigan (knee/illness), offensive tackle Taylor Moton (triceps), running back Jonathan Brooks (knee) and defensive tackle A’Shawn Robinson (knee), while outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney (shoulder), defensive tackle Jaden Crumedy (ankle) and safety Sam Franklin (foot) are listed as doubtful.

GOLF

Taylor Pendrith was spared wind so strong it caused a four-hour delay and battered the field in the Shriners Hospital Open. The Canadian had to play only six holes and stayed in the lead before the second round was halted by darkness.

Pendrith, who had a 10-under 61 Thursday in a calm morning to start the tournament, now faces a long day today — 12 holes to complete the second round and however many holes in the third round as the autumn light allows.

He remained at 10 under — four pars, a birdie and a bogey in his short day of work — and led by one shot over Rico Hoey, who made a 15-foot eagle putt on his seventh and final hole.

Far more impressive was Las Vegas resident Kurt Kitayama, who was bogey-free for a 68 in gusts approaching 40 mph and temperatures that led to a wardrobe of sweaters and ski caps. Kitayama was part of the group at 8-under 134 that included Doug Ghim, J.J. Spaun and Davis Thompson, all of whom completed the second round.

Hannah Green completed her weather-delayed second round with an 8-under 64 today to take a two-stroke lead after 36 holes of the LPGA Tour’s BMW Ladies Championship in Paju, South Korea.

Green was 4-under for her round Friday when rain washed out the remainder of play for the day. The Australian had a two-round total of 16-under 128 on the Seowon Valley Country Club course after also shooting a first-round 64.

Jorge Campillo stayed bogey-free with a 7-under 65 to take a four-shot lead at the halfway stage of the Andalucia Masters in San Roque, Spain. Englishman Dan Brown is the Spaniard’s nearest chaser.

WNBA

The Dallas Wings fired coach Latricia Trammell. Trammell went 31-49 in two seasons with the Wings, including 2-3 in the playoffs. This past season the team went 9-31 and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2020.

MLB

The San Francisco Giants promoted J.P. Martinez to the team’s pitching coach. Martinez will replace Bryan Price, who stepped down after one season in the role.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL

Describing himself as “a square peg in a round hole,” a tearful Tony Bennett said he suddenly retired from coaching at Virginia because he wasn’t suited to navigate the current landscape of college basketball. Bennett told those gathered at his exit news conference that name, image and likeness money and the transfer portal have brought elements to the job that he’s “not great at.”

Bennett famously led Virginia to the 2019 national championship a year after becoming the first team downed by a 16-seed in the NCAA Tournament.

SAILING

Emirates Team New Zealand built a 6-2 lead over INEOS Britannia in the America’s Cup finals in Barcelona to move just one point from successfully defending the oldest trophy in international sport. New Zealand’s yacht, Taihoro, won both of the day’s regattas in Barcelona, Spain.
