The junior was named the Pacific League player of the year for his consistency on the mound and at the plate for the Pacific League champions, who were 20-5 overall and 13-1 in league. Palencia hit .481 with 15 RBIs, 10 doubles and two home runs. The Apaches played a difficult nonleague schedule and competed in the difficult CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs. On the mound, Palencia was 7-1 with a 1.59 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 31 innings.
Ian Hoffstetter, Arcadia, Sr.
The ace of the staff for the Pacific League champions finished his memorable high school career with another big season. He earned the league’s pitcher of the year honor for a second straight season. The Apaches tried to use Hoffstetter in their toughest matchups and he usually delivered a strong outing. He finished 8-1 with a 1.49 ERA and 86 strikeouts in 56 innings. Hoffstetter was 18-2 the past two season’s and was an All-CIF Division 1 first team selection as a junior.
Joe Federico, Marshall
Federico led the Eagles to the Mission Valley League title for the third consecutive season and they did it in dominating fashion. They were 19-5 overall and 12-0 in league. They reached the second round of the CIF-SS Division 5 playoffs. Over the past three seasons, the Eagles are 52-14 overall and 33-3 in league.
