Norma Frost Clark passed away on May 27, 2023, after a 12-year battle with cancer. She was born on April 29, 1941 to Noman Frost and Beryl Lutz Frost in San Francisco (4th generation).
She grew up in Oakland and then Napa, graduating from Napa High School. She spent two years at The University of the Pacific and pledged Kappa Alpha Theta. She transferred to San Jose State and graduated with a degree in Sociology. She worked for the Santa Clara County Welfare Department and bought her first car, a bright turquoise Mercury Comet Sport.
On August 29, 1964 Norma married Robert Clark who had just returned from active duty in the U. S. Army. Their first home was in downtown San Francisco, in the Alcoa Center on battery Street. It was a dream come true for a young married couple. Norma worked for the San Francisco Welfare Department while Robert was a pharmaceutical representative for The Upjohn Company. In November 1968 their daughter, Sarah, was born in San Francisco, importantly extending Norma’s SF pedigree.
In 1970 they moved to Pasadena where Robert joined the family business, Trimflex. This was a hard move for Norma as it meant leaving her beloved Northern California for the urban sprawl of Southern California. However, she admitted that living in Pasadena made up for it. She participated in her community as an active member of the Pasadena Junior League, Kappa Alpha Theta Juniors, the Valley Hunt Club, and San Marino Community Church. One of the highlights of her life was singing in the SMCC choir under the direction of Roger Winter. He commanded a choir of seventy-five and led her through all the great choral music of the world. In September 1973 Alexander joined the family – a boy and a girl, perfect. As years passed by, Robert’s membership in the Tournament of Roses became more active and Norma enjoyed all the comradery that went with it (including traveling the world).
By 1992 the family business had grown to the point where a new building was needed. The couple selected the town of Redlands which was a community like Pasadena only thirty years prior. Norma immediately became involved with the historical branch of the Assistance league, Redlands Symphony, Panhellenic, Andiamo, the First Congregational Church of Redlands, Redlands Conservancy and docenting at Kimberly Crest. She was also devoted to dog rescue, particularly Brittanys.
Norma is survived by her husband, Robert Clark, her daughter Sarah, who is a third- grade teacher in Pasadena, and son Alex, who runs the family business, and his wife Karra. Siblings include Deanna Silvestri of Napa, Linda and Eddie Dwyer of Maple Glen, PA, and Bill and Laura Thrall of Pioneer CA. In-laws are Jeanne Clark of Redlands, and James and Suzanne Clark of Simi Valley.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Congregational Church of Redlands. A memorial service will be held at FCC (2 West Olive Avenue, Redlands CA 92373) at 3 PM on Saturday, June 17, 2023.
