



Mike Yastrzemski hit the go-ahead RBI single in the top of the ninth inning, Willy Adames and Casey Schmitt homered and the San Francisco Giants beat Colorado Rockies 6-5 on Tuesday night for their sixth win in a row — all by one run.
Schmitt’s home run off Zach Agnos (0-3) leading off the ninth started a four-run inning after Colorado relievers Jake Bird, Seth Halvorsen, Tyler Kinley had retired 12 consecutive batters.
The Rockies have lost four in a row and fell to 12-54.
Camilo Doval gave up two hits and a walk but got Jordan Beck to ground into a 5-4-3 double play in a scoreless ninth for his 10th save.
After Schmitt’s homer, Tyler Fitzgerald and Andrew Knizner drew back-to-back walks, moved up a base on a wild pitch and Adames drew a walk before Victor Vodnik replaced Agnos. Heliot Ramos hit a sacrifice fly, Wilmer Flores followed with an RBI infield single and Yastrzemski gave the Giants the lead.
Cubs 8, Phillies 4: Ian Happ homered twice, including a two-run shot in the sixth inning that rallied visiting Chicago over Philadelphia.
Dansby Swanson, Happ and Michael Busch each hit a solo shot off rookie Phillies starter Mick Abel.
Max Kepler hit a two-run homer for Philadelphia in the second.
The Phillies chased Colin Rea with one out in the fifth and Alec Bohm greeted Ryan Brasier with a two-run single to center for a 4-3 lead.
Just as they surrendered a late lead a night earlier, the Phillies bullpen faltered once again.
Happ’s homer off Taijuan Walker (2-5) — a two-out drive to right — put the Cubs ahead to stay.
The Cubs tacked on three runs in the eighth to send the Phillies to their 10th loss in 12 games.

Wells homered off Noah Cameron (2-2) with two outs in the fourth, then added a two-run double in the sixth.
Judge’s two-run homer in the first had an exit velocity of 117.9 mph and traveled 469 feet, landing on the roof of the Royals Hall of Fame in left field. Only the Angels’ Mike Trout and Logan O’Hoppe have hit longer home runs this season.
Cody Bellinger drove in a run in the sixth with the 1,000th hit of his career.
Mets 5, Nationals 4 (10): Jeff McNeil doubled home the winning run in the bottom of the 10th and New York rallied past Washington.
Juan Soto hit a solo homer and an RBI double for the Mets.
Pete Alonso delivered a tying single in the eighth after Soto’s two-out double trimmed it to 4-3.
New York (43-24), which has the best record in the National League, has won four straight and 13 of 16.
CJ Abrams homered, doubled twice and drove in two runs for the Nationals. Nathaniel Lowe launched a two-run homer off Griffin Canning in the first, and MacKenzie Gore struck out six in six steady innings.
Red Sox 3, Rays 1: Roman Anthony, the top prospect in baseball, hit a two-run double for his first major league hit and added a sliding catch in right field to help Boston beat Tampa Bay at Fenway Park.
One night after his MLB debut, when he went hitless and committed an error in an 11-inning loss, Anthony went 1 for 4 and gave Boston a 2-0 lead in the first inning with a sharp opposite-field double to left. Trevor Story hit a solo homer over the Green Monster in the sixth.
Lucas Giolito (2-1) limited Tampa Bay to one unearned run on three hits and three walks while striking out four over six innings.
Reds 1, Guardians 0: Andrew Abbott pitched a three-hitter for his first career complete game and Spencer Steer had an RBI single in the fifth inning, lifting visiting Cincinnati over Cleveland.
Abbott (6-1) struck out five and walked one in a 110-pitch gem, bouncing back from his first loss on June 4 against Milwaukee. It was the first shutout by a Reds pitcher since Wade Miley no-hit Cleveland on May 7, 2021, also at Progressive Field.
Guardians third baseman José Ramírez singled in the ninth, extending his on-base streak to 36 games.
Tigers 5, Orioles 3: Spencer Torkelson homered and Sawyer Gipson-Long pitched effectively out of the bullpen to help Detroit win at Baltimore.
Zach McKinstry hit two triples for the Tigers, who own the best record in the majors at 44-24.
Gipson-Long entered in the fourth and gave up one run and three hits with five strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings.
Rangers 16, Twins 4: Kyle Higashioka had a season-high five RBIs, Evan Carter and Wyatt Langford hit home runs and visiting Texas routed host Minnesota.
Carter finished with three hits, three RBIs and scored four times.
Higashioka, an Edison High graduate, had a two- run single, a two-run double and an RBI groundout.
Marlins 3, Pirates 2: Sandy Alcantara struck out six in six shutout innings, and Miami ended host Pittsburgh’s four-game winning streak.
Alcantara (3-7) allowed three hits and walked one in his first win since April 12. The 2022 NL Cy Young Award winner went 0-7 with a 9.07 ERA in his previous nine starts.
Miami’s Nick Fortes hit a two-run shot off Mitch Keller (1-9) in the third.
Brewers 4, Braves 1: Jackson Chourio and Jake Bauers hit home runs, Quinn Priester struck out seven in six strong innings and Milwaukee won at home over Atlanta.
