Maria Johanna Van Gent passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026, at the age of 91. Born and raised in the Netherlands, Maria carried the warmth, strength, and grace of her early years throughout a long and meaningful life. It was in the Netherlands that she met her beloved husband, Johannes “Jo” Van Gent. Married in 1961, they began a new chapter together when they immigrated to the U.S. in 1962.

Maria and Jo settled in Costa Mesa, where they bought their home, raised their son, and became part of a caring community. Maria was a longtime member of St. Joachim Catholic Church, where her faith, kindness, and generous spirit were evident to those who knew her. She found great purpose in volunteering and giving her time to serve others, offering a helping hand wherever she could. Those who loved Maria will remember her as a devoted wife, mother, friend, and neighbor. Her life was marked by quiet strength, compassion, and an enduring commitment to family, faith, and community. She leaves behind alegacy of love and service that will continue to live on in the hearts of all blessed to know her.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. A funeral mass will be held on July 29, at 11 am at St. Joachim Catholic Church, 1964 Orange Ave, Costa Mesa. Reception to follow service.
