Yankees: Yankees outfielder Juan Soto was scratched from the lineup because of a bruised right hand about 20 minutes before Saturday’s game against the Blue Jays. Oswaldo Cabrera started in right field for Soto, who is batting .302 with 20 home runs and 60 RBIs. Soto was injured sliding into home plate in the fourth inning of Friday’s 16-5 win, one of three runs he scored in the Yankees’ highest-scoring game of the season. He was wearing a protective mitt on his hand when he scored the Yankees’ first run. Soto hit a three-run home run and a single after injuring his hand on the slide. He was expected to get an X-ray later Saturday.

Blue Jays: Blue Jays closer Jordan Romano has been shut down because of continued pain in his injured right elbow, manager John Schneider said Saturday. The two-time All-Star will visit Dr. Keith Meister in Texas on Tuesday, Schneider said. Romano missed part of spring training and the first 17 games of the regular season because of elbow soreness. He went on the injured list for a second time June 1, retroactive to May 30. ... Vladimir Guerrero Jr. homered for the sixth time in eight games and finished with six RBIs, Alejandro Kirk had two hits and two RBIs and the Blue Jays beat the Yankees 9-3 on Saturday.

Guardians: Guardians signed free agent left-hander Matthew Boyd to a major league contract for the remainder of the season, an addition that will give the AL Central leaders some added pitching depth and protection. Boyd, though, is still recovering from undergoing Tommy John elbow surgery last year, and won’t be ready to join the Guardians until at least August. Boyd has progressed to throwing live batting practice. “We don’t have a specific timetable at this point,” president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti said Saturday on a Zoom call. Boyd was shut down last season after making 15 starts with the Tigers. The 33-year-old agreed to a deal earlier this week with the Guardians and passed medical tests.

White Sox: Paul DeJong homered and drove in three runs, and the Chicago White Sox beat the Colorado Rockies 11-3 on Saturday for their third straight win. Luis Robert Jr., Korey Lee and Lenyn Sosa also homered for Chicago in its first double-digit scoring game of the season. The White Sox finished with 12 hits in a matchup of baseball’s worst teams. Chicago went ahead to stay with three runs in the sixth. Robert tied it at 3 with a 470-foot solo drive to center against Cal Quantrill. Andrew Vaughn was hit by a pitch with one out, and DeJong followed with a drive to left for his 15th homer. Quantrill (6-6) was charged with five runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Diamondbacks: The Diamondbacks activated ace Zac Gallen from the injured list to start Saturday’s game against the Athletics. The right-hander (5-4, 3.12 ERA) left his previous outing on May 30 at the Mets after facing one batter. He was diagnosed with a right hamstring strain and was placed on the injured list.
