


Lakeland fought off a comeback from South Lyon East on Wednesday, completing a series sweep that also allowed the Eagles to clinch the Lakes Valley Conference title.
Preston Shipman and Ethan Westover each had a pair of hits for the Cougars, who came back from down 6-2 with a five-run fifth inning, but the Eagles got a pair of RBI singles in the seventh to retake the lead for an 8-7 victory on Wednesday. One of those run-scoring hits came by Cam Chinavare, who finished the day 3-for-4 with four RBIs.
Jackson Miller and Ethan Rowley also provided strong starts in the other pair of wins for Lakeland, who finished the LVC slate with a record of 23-1.
South Lyon swept its series this week against Walled Lake Northern, forcing the Eagles to take care of business against East. The only games the Lions lost in the league were a pair of 2-1 defeats to Lakeland earlier this month.
MILFORD 10, WALLED LAKE WESTERN 4
The Mavericks pushed across six runs in the fifth inning to pick up the win Wednesday despite some good early mound work by Warriors starter Lucas Hoffmeyer, who struck out 10. Brok Badertscher drove in a pair of runs and Brady Heggemeyer drew four walks in the victory by Milford (11-26, 8-15 LVC).
FARMINGTON HILLS MERCY 5, DIVINE CHILD 0
The Falcons managed just one hit off Kaitlyn Pallozzi, who struck out 17 batters to lift the Marlins to the CHSL Bishop Tournament title on Monday in Ypsilanti.
Taylor Selimi extended Mercy’s lead from one to three with a two-run triple in the bottom of the fourth. She finished with two hits, as did Sophie Chaput and Carmella Crane, for the Marlins (25-2). It marked the fifth tourney championship in a row for Mercy.
ROYAL OAK SHRINE 14, CRANBROOK- KINGSWOOD 8
Massive production at the top of the lineup allowed the Knights to win Monday’s game for the CHSL Ste. Anne championship, its first Catholic League tournament title since 2013.
Leadoff hitter Kate Zobril and No. 2 batter Samantha Swaneck each had three hits for Shrine and combined to drive in eight runs in the victory. Georgia Golbiw, Jenna Ruhle and Maris Graveline all had a pair of hits as well for the Knights (15-7).
Kate Phelps had a team-high three hits, while Maia Duffy and Lola Finneran both drove in two runs for the Cranes.
GROSSE POINTE NORTH 8, CLARKSTON 7
The Wolves fought back, scoring three runs to tie it in the top of the seventh inning before losing on a walk-off homer in the bottom of the frame in their first game Wednesday against the Norseman. Gracie Cantley had a pair of hits and scored three times, while Brooke Bond homered and Kaylynn Johnson had the game-tying hit for Clarkston in the loss.
GROSSE POINTE NORTH 5, CLARKSTON 3
Leadoff hitter Gracie Cantley finished with a pair of hits as the Wolves (15-12) came up short in the second game of the doubleheader.
BIRMINGHAM GROVES 18, OAKLAND CHRISTIAN 3
Zoie Watts hit an inside-the-park home run that scored two other teammates in Wednesday’s non-league victory by the Falcons (21-11). Kinley Roy scored four times, while Charlie Gress provided a double and a triple each in Groves’ win. Ellie Douglas had a two-run double in the Lancers’ loss.
BLOOMFIELD HILLS 13, NORTH FARMINGTON 6
Anna Carlson doubled twice and plated seven runs in the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader with the Raiders. Britton Howland and Evie Chin each recorded three hits in the win by the Black Hawks (19-14). Corina Carrillo, Amani Aaron and Zoey Painter each had a pair of hits for North Farmington.
ROCHESTER ADAMS 7, TROY 0
Lilley Lutzka fanned nine hitters and allowed just one hit in Wednesday’s five-inning victory by the Highlanders (16-15), who got two-RBI performances out of Olivia Viazanko and Mia Murphree.
BIRMINGHAM SEAHOLM 8, FERNDALE 0
Paige Green scored two goals in the second half for the Maples (10-4-3) to complete a hat trick Wednesday night in Ferndale. Brynlee Pratt added a pair of goals, while Keira Kovach and Morgan Keith each found the back of the net as well in the victory.
