There’s a new warbird at the March Field Air Museum near Riverside.

The museum on Friday added an F-16 fighter jet to its collection and celebrated with a brief ceremony.

The American-made supersonic plane is the main aircraft in 80% of air forces of the world, a museum news release states.

The jets are flown by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds exhibition team and are made into popular toys.

The 144th Fighter Wing at March Air Reserve Base — which is adjacent to the museum — has four F-16s.

The museum’s F-16 will be its 120th aircraft.

“It took us six years to complete this acquisition,” Jamil Dada, president of the museum‘s board, said in the release.

The arrangement encountered a delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Dada said in the release.

The 144th Fighter Wing helped restore and repaint the plane so it now matches the colors of March’s F-16s.

This plane is dedicated to the wing and the Lewis Group of Cos., which donated the $40,000 cost to acquire the jet.
