The 50th anniversary celebration of “Saturday Night Live” was a star-studded affair featuring some of the show’s most beloved cast members, guest hosts, and celebrity cameos.

But at least five big stars missed the “SNL 50” special on Sunday, leading fans to ask: Where was Dan Aykroyd? Bill Hader? Dana Carvey? Colin Quinn? And Justin Timberlake?

The biggest surprise was Aykroyd, the only living original cast member who did not attend the 3-hour event alongside co-stars Chevy Chase, Garrett Morris, Jane Curtin and Laraine Newman. Bill Murray briefly referenced “Danny Aykroyd” during a “Weekend Update” appearance, saying he originally used the phrase “Jane you ignorant slut” offstage before Aykroyd said it on “SNL.”

Aykroyd, 72, joked he’d rather watch the special than attend in August, then told The A.V. Club in November he still hadn’t committed to it.

“Well, it depends. On how and when I’m invited, I guess,” he said. “It depends on how I can serve... Lorne and the whole enterprise best. That’ll determine whether I go or not.”

Hader, who was on “Saturday Night Live” for eight seasons, reportedly turned down an invitation due to “a longstanding schedule conflict,” according to People magazine. Hader, however, did participate in the nostalgic fun by appearing in a new Volkswagen commercial based on his “The Californians” sketch with Kristen Wiig and Fred Armisen.

Quinn, who hosted “Weekend Update” from 1998 to 2000, has not given any explanation for his absence. Murray shouted out Quinn in a skit Sunday honoring the best “Weekend Update” hosts, ribbing Colin Jost with a long pause after the first name.

Carvey, who was a cast member from 1986 to 1993 and played President Joe Biden earlier this season, also has not said why he didn’t make an appearance. His longtime friend and podcast co-host, David Spade, did participate in the reunion fun.

Timberlake, on the other hand, was not a “SNL” cast member but is one of the few in “The Five-Timers Club” for people who have guest-hosted “Saturday Night Live” five or more times. E! News reports the singer-actor said he was unavailable because he is currently on a world tour.
