WEST BLOOMFIELD >> North Farmington and West Bloomfield got around to finishing their OAA Blue contest that had been suspended on April 25 with the Raiders leading 2-0.

When it resumed on Friday night, the Raiders quickly added to their lead, going on to a 7-1 win and putting the finishing touch on an unbeaten league season.

“It’s a really good group this year. A lot of these seniors have had a few years that were kind of a grind and kind of rough. But this year, they’ve really worked hard, put it together, and stuck with it. And I’m proud of the kind of results they’re getting this season,” North Farmington head coach Erika Rust said. “I think it’s a good mix this year of veterans that are stepping up and being really good leaders and players. Our sophomore group in particular, they’re talented. They have a lot of skill, but last year as freshmen, they just didn’t have their confidence yet. They kind of were still getting their feet wet on varsity. So them coming into their own has really, really helped.”

The game resumed Friday with 15:14 to play in the first half, and it took the Raiders just over four minutes to add to their lead when Skyler Wayne chipped a ball in from 25 yards out. Leah Siskosky’s corner kick found Brianna Murphy on the back side, and Murphy headed it in to make it 4-0 with just under three minutes to halftime.

The second half was largely more of the same with both Wayne and Murphy scoring, as well as Siskosky, and the Raiders rolled. West Bloomfield got a goal from Ariana Scott and came close a couple of other times, but overall North Farmington just had too much offense.

The Raiders (11-2 overall) will finish the OAA Blue portion of their season with a perfect 8-0 record to claim the division title in dominant fashion. North Farmington won every league game by at least four goals, a drastic uptick in production after a season in which the Raiders finished with an overall record of 3-9-3.

“I think since our freshman year, this is the best season we’ve had, a really good group of girls. So it’s really exciting to be able to win the division this year,” Vanessa Kantor, another Raiders senior captain, said.

“We had some new players this year. It’s nice to have a full team because last year was a little unfortunate,” North Farmington senior captain Ryan Johnson said. “We got a few new players. A lot of the younger girls really grew into their positions and were able to step up. We have a really good group of seniors as well, and everyone fit into their roles really nicely this year,” she added.

The Raiders will now begin playoff preparations with a road game against Detroit Country Day on Tuesday.

West Bloomfield (2-7, 2-5 OAA Blue) will be back in action on Tuesday against Berkley in an OAA crossover.
