Jennifer Raybaud, owner of The Serendipitous Soul, knows that people are stressed out.

Her third Self-Care Fair is Jan. 4 at the St. Clair Shores VFW Bruce Post and offers ideas for people to decompress and embrace a healthy lifestyle.

“I think this is the time of year when a lot of people are making New Year’s resolutions and looking to try new things,” Raybaud said. “We choose January for that reason and because, after the holidays, there are not a lot of events going on.”

This year’s fair will have 52 vendors that address different aspects of self care.

“This is a curated event, so I think people will find it is very well rounded and there will not be too much of any one thing,” said Raybaud. “Different things resonate with different people and I think we have a big variety.”

Vendors include a microgreens farmer, a mushroom expert, death doula, grief and loss counselors, massage therapists, nutritionists and mental health professionals.

“We will have a farmer who runs a pollinator project and will be selling honey, but also will have information about how to become a beekeeper,” said Raybaud.

There will also be some on-site services available.

“Of course, we will also have things for people to indulge themselves because that is part of self care too,” Raybaud said. “People can get a massage, we have reflexologists, and people who can do henna.”

There will also be vendors selling homemade soaps and skin products.

“There is a little bit of everything,” Raybaud said. “Self care goes way beyond what we typically think of and encompasses anything that affects your life balance.”

Admission is $1 with all admission profits to be donated to the St. Clair Shores Community Garden.

Raybaud hosted her first self-care fair in 2020, but the second one was not held until January of 2023 due to the COVID pandemic. Last year’s event was well attended and Raybaud said she got great feedback from the vendors who said people came ready to engage, converse and learn.

“It is a very low pressure situation; you can just stroll around, talk to people, and get information,” Raybaud said.

The St. Clair Shores Self-Care Fair is Jan. 4, 10 a.m. — 3 p.m. at the VFW Bruce Post, 28404 Jefferson Avenue near Martin Road.
